What is the best DTD hotel to stay in - but not the Hilton, because they are too expensive for us.

Cleanest rooms which are bug free?

Closest to DTD - in walking distance?

Refrigerator in the room?

Best rates?

thank you!

The Holiday Inn WDW was very nice when we stayed last year. It's next door to the Hilton. (Literally, their parking lots touch). Clean room, had mini fridge and microwave it the room at no extra charge. Also had wired internet in the room at no extra charge. The price was comparable to the Best Western, which is one of the least expensive out of the DTD hotels. We chose the Holiday Inn because it had recently been rebuilt and was a quick walk to DTD (about 6-7 min walk, depending on your speed). Plus Best Western had seemed to have a bunch of charges for little things like the mini fridge or the internet (that could have changed by now). I would stay at the Holiday Inn again.

Oh, and we looked for reviews of bed bugs before we stayed and didn't find any complaints....and don't have any complaints ourselves. I would recommend it. My only suggestion if you want a balcony is to request one when checking in. They do have a some rooms that don't have balconies.

Are the prices at the values too expensive e in comparison to those other hotels? Staying inside WDW so outweighs the disadvantages of being off property, even for the extra money. Just my ¢.02.

Values - room are too small.
DH likes rooms which open up to a hallway - not the outside (tried CSR, no luck)

I looked up some AAA rates for the Hilton - May 2014 and found a King room for $89 plus $22 resort fee = $111 per night plus tax.
Hilton does have extra magic hours included, a nice perk.

DH loves the Dolphin - but since it will just be DH & DW - a nice DTD hotel I think would do - no need for a Dolphin Grotto pool.

Values have also shown up on the bed bug regisrty.

I have been read about WDW resort guests would have an advantage in the years to come with the room/ticket wrist bands. Being able to FP rides up to 60 days before arrival - or even earlier in the day before the park you are going to is open.
So you could get a jump on Soarin, Tower of Terror, Everst, Toy Story....the list goes on for each park.

Will we have a problem staying off site and not have the ability to FP early ?
Sounds like the new bands will be in production by 2014.

What are your thoughts ?

We are at the Wyndham at DTD right now.
I actually got the room off of bookit.com for about $55.00 a night (then you have to add the "resort fee" of 12.00 per day).

We just did a Universal trip and are headed to LEGOLAND today. I thought staying at DTD would give me my Disney fix for this trip. :)

When we booked, I knew I would be checking this out as a possibility for future Disney trips. We usually stay at a Value because we are NEVER in the room.

These rooms are about the same size as a value. The beds are comfortable. No bugs anywhere that I have seen (and believe me... I check!)

There is a lot of Disney feel to the lobby, employees are all trading pins, there is a Disney store, even a character breakfast here.

There is a nice pool/splash park area as well.

Free wi/fi in the rooms, small fridge and microwave too which are nice.

The beds and bedding are really nice and so are the toiletries that they furnish.
It looks like our room has recently been updated and there is fresh paint and new carpet. The AC will freeze you out of the room (I like that after a hot day at the park) and the shower is super hot too!

Now the negatives:

The doors do open to the outside and the the corridors, hallways and elevators are pretty dated. Our room is forever away from the lobby too.

Also, no breakfast included. There is a muffin/coffee kiosk downstairs in the lobby, but we are so far from the lobby we will probably just pick up something on the road this morning.

I also wanted to add that we are right down the block (totally walking distance) from DTD.

We are booked at the Radisson Lake Buena Vista for July. I'm excited to try a downtown Disney hotel. We have stayed all over and like to mix it up.

The Trip Advisor reviews are good, and we got an excellet price through Expedia.:thumbsup2

I"ve stayed there twice and it is a nice hotel ...BUT wouldnt call it a downtown Disney hotel...very congested area 1/2 mile from the road that leads to downtown Disney.
Make sure you get a room facing the parking lot or the noise from the road is loud!!! I am a light sleeper though so it did bother me.

We just returned from the Doubletree Suites DTD. The rooms are huge. 2 room suite, you have a living room with a pullout couch, chair, table and chairs and kitchenette, plus a bedroom with 2 doubles or a king. No resort fee, but there is a $13/day parking fee if you plan to have a car. They also charge for in room internet. It is on the end of the strip, so farthest walk to DTD. The hotel could use a little updating but it was very clean. The pool area was nice, although I was kind of bummed they were remodeling the kiddy pool. Overall, it was a good value for a room that size. Regarding the buses, I didn't think the buses were nearly as good as the Disney buses. They come less frequently, and 2 parks share a bus. (I believe MK and AK share, and HS and Epcot share.) So the commute to the parks took longer.

We always stay the night before we check in to our WDW resort every yr. Stayed 3 times at Best Western DTD, 2 times at Hilton & we are staying Holiday Inn DTD this Sept, Best Western is very decent we once got a Epcot view room watched Illuminations...

I'm very curious about Royal Plaza but so far haven't seen any decent prices..

Lees, I just wanted you to know that I just booked reservations at Wyndham because of your review. Thanks so much. My son will love the water splash area and I want to take him to the Lego store and maybe T-Rex café in DTD.

We've just returned from a two night quick trip last week. Stayed at the Doubletree Suites at DTD - happy to report that the renovation is underway (did not disturb our trip at all). We were the first to stay in a renovated suite - felt very upscale and modern with all the new fixtures, furniture, and fabrics! We chose to drive to the parks rather than chance it with the buses because we were park hopping...

My sister and I took our daughters to WDW and stayed at the Best Western at DTD. It was an easy walk to DTD, and we never drove our car because the buses to the parks were dependable and convenient. We were at the parks from open to close each day and didn't use the internet, so I don't know if there was a charge for that. The rooms were large, clean and very comfortable. The price was great, and there is no parking fee:thumbsup2

I stayed at the Holiday Inn a year ago and we loved it. Very clean, and the staff was wonderful! We had some great meals at the restaurant onsite too!

I stayed at the Best Western DTD and it was nice and a short distance to DTD. Now we only stayed one night due to we were driving back from Tampa to Daytona (from an evening wedding) and we had no problems with the room and in fact, it was a nice sized room for the price we paid. We didn't use any of the amentities, but the only problem we had was there was a hard time finding parking coming back from the wedding (we arrived at around midnight). Most of their parking is Valet and we weren't paying for Valet for one night.
