I know I could do a search to check previous threads, but I already have the basic staples (granola bars, fruit snacks, bottle caps, taffy, microwave popcorn, instant oatmeal, brita bottles). I was hoping for some other, different ideas. I picked up some energy bars, but they are high in calories and fat. Are these good, or fattening? I was also hoping to decide what drinks to bring, in addition to the Brita. I probably won't have ice in my Disney cooler bag. I will need to bring something for DD2, like drink boxes. Last year, DH bought a soda each day instead of drinking from the Brita :earseek: , but I still drank from it. Any other ideas? DD11 snacks a LOT.....even with eating 3 meals a day..........

I know what you mean about the pre-teen who eats a lot--my youngest DD just turned 12 and she is a non-stop feed fest!

In addition to what you listed above, some of the things we brought to parks with us: individual servings of the crackers/breadsticks with cheese spread, goldfish, the quaker fruit and oatmeal snacks, pretzels, and ingredients for a chex mix like chex, raisins, peanuts and a few m&m's.

Drinks are a little more challenging. Juice boxes are probably your best bet along with the Britas if you don't want to buy soda in the parks. I think some people have brought along powdered drink mix for something different, but you'd have to use that with filtered water in another container.

Good luck, and have a great time!

Energy bars will depend on the brand. Many are designed for a quick burn - i.e. pretty high in carbs - but that is what you want when you are hiking all day - or walking ten miles at Disney. It might be worthwhile to talk to someone at someplace like REI about your energy bar options. While I wouldn't recommend them for a regular meal for a desk jockey, they are possibly right up the alley for feeding a hungry preteen walking miles a day at Disney.

Most are pretty filling as well. I like Cliff Bars. Zone bars are 30-40-40 (calories from fat, carbs and protien, iirc)

They aren't any more fattening than nuts, fruit snacks, bottle caps and taffy.

What about Ritz Bits, Animal Crackers, Mini Oreos in the individual packages? These do fair better in a fanny pack than a backpack - I should know - I had many a crushed snack in my backpack::yes::

We have a Shaws near us that sell individual bags of Fritos, SmartFood popcorn.

My 8 yr-olds eat a lot of snacks also. Bringing snacks into the parks certainly helped with our budget.

We can't go to the World without our individual sized rice krispy treats that we buy in big box from Sam's. We also bring along juice boxes, small orange juice bottles mini fruit in cups or tiny cans (pick up plasticware anywhere), and sometimes mini muffins(banana nut for him, choco chip for me). They now have presweetened lemonade and kool-aid you can pour into your water bootles for something different other than water and soda.

Have a good trip,
Tina

The trail mix from Costco is really good, and you could pack it in the snack size ziplock bags. Also the Little Debbie Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers are good too. I think the best idea I saw this summer was squirt cheese in a can. Someone in line with us at the Pirates of the Caribbean was squirting this on crackers and handing it to their kids. They offered a few to my grandson, and he happily accepted. Great idea!

There was another thread started a few weeks ago about Crystal Light On-The-Go packets that are tube shaped and you pour them into a 20 oz. bottle of water. Very light weight and convenient to travel with. Might cut down on some of the soda. The only problem is they need to be ordered over the internet as they aren't available in US grocery stores yet. Anyone have an update on this? Here's one of the better sources, if you are interested:

Capri-Sun juice bags...freeze them, they'll keep other things cold and will still be very cold by the time they drink them. Even if they're still frozen, they're almost like a slushie. Breadsticks 'n cheese, fruit snacks, peanuts...nothing too easily crushed. And definitely nothing that will melt!
