Best Dessert Party for Type 2 Diabetes?

DH was recently diagnosed with Type 2 and I'm wondering if one dessert party will have more protein and lower carb options than the others?
 
I have done the one at MK ( a number of times) and HS ( one time) and for me HS was the one I remember being lower carbs. With all the extra walking he will be doing at Disney he might need the extra carbs at the end of the night.
 
My hubby is type 2. Your hubby needs to take along his supplies, and test frequently - all of the walking will most likely affect his blood sugar levels for sure. Keep him hydrated as well; if nothing else, it makes testing easier.

It's not a "get out of jail free" pass for non-stop cupcakes, but my DH can typically indulge a bit more in carbs and a limited number of sweets while at WDW. The morning we leave, he goes back to a more normal routine.
 
You can also YouTube them some of the YouTube video what they have to eat they do change them some but if you but if you can find a video The is recent ( within 6 months ) this should give you a good idea of what they have
 

Thank you! These are good suggestions... I'm going to research current menus more and choose probably Frozen or DHS SW based on more on our schedules. I sort of just wish the were just called "Fireworks Parties" as opposed to "Dessert Parties" -- I think just the name is sort of frustrating for DH as he adapts to this...
 
I like the idea of "Fireworks Party". And they could add more sugar free things to the menu, along with the savory, lower carb items. They really need to do better with sugar free items throughout the parks. We bring a lot of our own snacks because most things are so full of sugar and starch.
 
We have done the Frozen and SW ones, we found the SW one was better, more savoury, less carbs, we could make a meal out of it without a sugar coma.

Sugar free dose not mean carb free and carbs are what raise BG what they add to sugar free can be warts then the real sugar they were replacing

My DH’s doctors have all recommended “sugar” rather than the substitutes, and to limit portion size.

OP - Sorry, I don’t have any experience with the dessert parties, but wanted to tell your husband that it’s a tough adjustment but it gets easier and he will FEEL so much better!

It all depends on what they are replacing sugar with. Many people with insulin resistance do well with a little artificial sweetener. The key is moderation.
I hope they don't add warts.
 
I don’t know if this is a solution for you and it might sound weird but we have twice taken a little food in with us to a dessert party. We asked a CM and they said no problem. At MK we took in salad and chicken from Cosmic Rays to split and at Epcot it was fish and chips. I loved that we didn’t have to take a food break earlier in the day and the kids got some protein before starting the sugar-fest.

That's because for the vast majority of people who go to the parks, sugar and starch aren't issues they are concerned about, so of course Disney will cater to the majority.
 
Well true but they do make sure there are a lot of gluten free choices. A lot of diabetics either go without or eat things they shouldn't while there. I don't have blood sugar issues and as I get older I make sure I never do. Eating junk at DW just plain is not good for me. Over 100 million in the U.S. have diabetes or prediabetes and millions more have it and don't know it.

Gluten free desserts often have as many, if not more carbs as regular desserts. As a T2, I do not gravitate toward gluten free foods or desserts, as they do not improve my glycemic control. What works for me isn’t what’s necessarily going to work for the next person though, so the best thing OPs husband can do is work to figure out what factors affect his blood sugar and also keep hydrated and test often at Disney because the walking will have an effect on it. For me, I handle cheesecake better than something like a brownie or a cookie, but everyone is different.
 
My brother came to a Dessert Party with us when he joined us for my 50th birthday trip. He went to Guest Services when we arrived in the park that morning and told them he was diabetic. All we had to do was notify the CMs on check in at the party that he was diabetic and gave them his name, and they brought him a special platter. My brother is quite naughty, though, and still ate a few of the desserts on offer. But the point is, if they know you have special dietary needs, they'll bring something special. My daughter went through a 3-year period of being quite lactose intolerant and they brought her a special platter even though she was still able to eat a fair bit of what was on offer. I think she had more to eat that I did!!
 
mccall12, I was not suggesting that gluten free is something that is good for diabetics. I was pointing out that they do have things on all menus that can be eaten by those who are unable to eat gluten. I do know that gluten free does not mean sugar free. Quite the contrary, most of the time.

It wasn’t clear to me from your post whether you were recommending trying gluten free items or just saying that’s usually available. I believe you had said you didn’t struggle with blood sugar issues I wanted to make sure that OP and her husband, who seem to be new to T2 (I think) living, know that gluten free is not usually low carb. In the absence of getting reliable nutrition info I can see someone new to this thinking gluten free is a healthy option, especially given the popularity of gluten free diets lately.

One thing that is really hard with Disney is that they don’t provide nutritional information like carb counts. It can be really tricky so the more work done now to understand specifically what spikes his sugar and what he handles better will help him to make better judgements eating throughout the world. If he hasn’t been to a nutritional counselor I would also highly recommend that. My first trip as a T2 was difficult and I mostly ate salads with no dressing and nuts, and drank only water because I really didn’t understand what was ok for me to eat and I was still getting used to everything. I do not take insulin so I am very used to calculating carbs and know generally how many and what kind of carbs I can do and how it will affect me. It takes practice for sure.
