Best Departure Day Breakfast?

We are planning a trip for next May. I am planning to do mostly quick service during our stay to save time and money but wanted to do a nice sit-down breakfast on our departure day as a fun farewell. We won't have park tickets for that day so it would need to be at a resort. We are staying at PO-FQ but plan to take an Uber or taxi to get somewhere for breakfast that morning and back before check-out.

I think The Wave and Trattoria al Forno are too fancy for my son (who will be 11 when we travel) and husband's tastes. I don't think O'hana would be a good fit for us as my husband doesn't like ham or sausage and would probably only eat eggs and Mickey waffles, which wouldn't be a very satisfying breakfast for him.

Right now, I am considering Kona Cafe, mainly because those macadamia nut pancakes sound amazing to me and I know it has boring options for my son and husband. I haven't found many reviews of the pancakes, just the Tonga Toast, so not sure if they are really good enough to go out of my way for or if there are better options. (Obviously we are still months from even being able to book reservations but I am an obsessive planner.)

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 😊

We do Wilderness Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge for our departure day breakfast.

Best breakfast on property IMO, and more affordable than most.

The Trail's End breakfast buffet back in before times was my favorite. POG juice - they called it moonshine. Eggs, waffles, potatoes, random casseroles, all the meats, yogurt parfait bar, all kinds of random fruits and pastries.

The current family style offering doesn't look quite so good as the buffet. But I'm praying the buffet is back by April....

I'm a huge fan of Kona cafe. Ohana breakfast has always been a staple of our WDW trips but after our last time there, I really don't think the food quality is worth it. I've always had great experiences at Kona for both breakfast and dinner.

If the food itself isn't your main goal, maybe choose somewhere based on location? Since you're not staying near the Boardwalk maybe go there and have breakfast? Or Sanaa at AKL for the Savannah view?

We stayed at POFQ, our departure day we had brunch at Chef Art Smith's Homecomin' and loved it, was a nice final boat ride there and back. Hopefully boats will be back up and running soon.

I was thinking of AKL but wasn't sure which restaurant had the best animal view. I love the food and love to try new things but my family is very picky so I am trying to find somewhere that has something exciting for me and something more standard for them. 😅

I 2nd this suggestion. We had breakfast there early this summer and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A fun way to get there would be to take normal transportation from your resort to MK and then get on the boat from MK to Wilderness Lodge.

We are actually departing on a Friday and it looked like all the brunch options at Disney Springs were limited to Saturday and / or Sunday. I did think about going to Homecomin' for dinner on out first night but the most recent review on DIS Dining was mediocre and that's a lot of money for mediocre. I would love to try the moonshine cake, though! Wish they had a carry out option and I could just get it to take back to my room.

We always (well not always but most of the time) stay at the Dolphin. We love the Med. Fresh Garden restaurant. Before Covid it was sort of a buffet, egg station, ala carte menu hybrid. The last time I was there, in April, they had the egg cooking station/pancakes/waffels/carving and a sort of hybrid buffet where there was someone getting what you wanted and the ala carte menu. They had the best juice station on the buffet bar none. It's still good and will still be our go to last day breakfast.

Thanks for the suggestion.. We ate at Whispering Canyon for lunch on our last trip (when my son was 4). I was hoping to try somewhere new this time since we won't be doing a lot of table service this trip. I did look at the menu and I think my family would have trouble agreeing on a skillet anyway. 😅

You don't have to agree on a skillet. Each person can order a different skillet.

Completely understand wanting to try a new restaurant, but for future reference.

Good to know, I couldn't tell from the on-line menu I looked at.

I will 3rd WWC. It was one of our best meals last October from service to food. I will say the Bloody Mary was just ok.

I love Whispering Canyon Cafe, but seriously, the BEST breakfast is at Boma. That one meal can keep you full all day, even if a delayed flight makes your day extra long!

Boma used to be our favorite, but last time I did GFC and enjoyed that.

We do Roaring Fork at Wilderness Lodge. we've stayed at many resorts and never found a better option. Mickey Waffles and Pecan butter are the BEST!

We love Kona breakfast, and yes, the macadamia nut pancakes are delicious. We get them made with gluten free pancakes, but I'm assuming the regular pancakes are at least as good, lol. It's the butter with macadamia nuts and the pineapple they top them with that make them so yummy.

We are also fans of the Loco Moco (regular version, haven't tried the plant based one), but it's probably not for everyone.

In its previous version, we would do Boma and loved it. Haven't been there since it reopened to know if its the same or changed.
