We will be travelling in Aug to Disneyworld and with our package we are able to stay at any of the deluxe Disney resorts. Our daughters are 4 and 8 and we are "older"parents !

Does anyone have suggestions for the best resort for us ? We will be there for 5 nights, planning on quite a few character breakfasts, Cirque de Soleil, Fantasmic, and MK, Epcot and AK. The last time we were there for a short time, visited MGM and we were all disappointed.

Right now we are booked at the Wilderness Lodge but can change - for more $$ of course ! Our plan is the Platinum Plan through Walt Disney World Resorts.

Thanks

Randi

Stay at the WL. Request a room with bunk beds. That way the kids will be seperated and you will have a queen sized bed. Its an absolutely georgus resort, fun for all. even if rustic mountain lodges arent your thing, youll still appreciate it.

If you are planning on spending a significant amount of time in MK, please consider the Contemporary. It is so convenient to be on the monorail loop. We just got back---and it was so easy to "Hop" right on over to MK. Have a great trip!

It depends on where you're planning to spend most of your time. If you're planning to spend most of your time in the MK, I'd reccomend one of the monorail resorts (Contemp., Polynesian, Grand Floridian). If you plan on spending more time in Epcot, then I'd reccomend the Yacht or Beach Club.

The Wilderness Lodge is one of my faves, and you won't be disappointed. Another option is the Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is designed similar to the WL.

Regardless of where you stay, you'll have a great time! : )

With a 4 and 8 year old I would definitely consider one of the monorail deluxes. I'm partial to the Grand FLoridian. They also host the Pirate Cruise, Wonderland tea party and Grand adventures in cooking. They have two great pools and a really nice atmospher. I disagree with the people who believe that the GF has a stuffy feeling to it. We went with a 2, 4 and 5 year old last year and didn't feel out of place at all. In fact we're going back in July.

We were there last Aug for 4 nights and loved the WL. We hit all the parks but did MK 3x and Epcot 2x. The boat ride to the MK is wonderful - cool, convenient and not too crowded. We had it one afternoon all to ourselves!
The one thing I didn't like was the pool - it got very crowded. We never got to try the quiet pool and got rained out several times due to mid-day T-storms.
I loved relaxing in the lobby while my DD3 threw pennies into the stream (inside) and DS9 explored the gift cart & shop and the pressed penny machines.
It was just the right size and tempo (and budget) for us.

We enjoyed the WL but personally loved the GF. It is our favorite resort along with BCV. For your trip I would highly recommend a monorail resort. It is the quickest trip to MK. If you plan to spend a lot of time in Epcot then I would recommend the BC. Overall I think that if you are going in Aug you should seriously consider the pool at each resort. We personally felt that the WL had the least desirable pool of all the deluxe resorts. We prefer the zero entry for our younger daughter and the slide for our older DD. The Poly, GF, and BC all have both.

at Beach Club Villas???

It is a "HomeAwayFromHome" resort Category...has full kitchen, washer dryer, two tv;s DVD player, and full use of all resort Amenities at Y&BC...

It would be my first pick - just for the space you would have...

Happy planning!!

Personal opinion based on personal visits...

Polynesian - hands down, best location in WDW! Access to resort and Epcot monorails right there plus boat transport to MK. Very kid friendly. My kiddos - then 6 and 7 - loved it!

AKL - Another favorite. Some people think this is "too far" but AKL has dedicated bus service (which we never used but know it's got a good rep) and we always drive ourselves. OK, *I* always drive us but that's the control freak I am. My kids - then 5 and 6 - loved the pool, perfect in its simplicity as The Oasis. We had a Savannah View and it totally made the stay being able to check out the animals from our balcony. Plus there are tosn of public viewing areas around the resort.

Beach Club - now our Home Away From Home since we bought into DVC. This place is also perfect location - 5 minute walk to Epcot, 15 minute walk to MGM. Best pool in all of Disney in Stormalong Bay. Close to the Boardwalk for that entertainment. If you are a driver like me, it's literally a 3 minute drive to MK front gate and probably a 90 second drive to the MGM front gate.

Now WL is something we haven't experienced yet, so it may well be just what you are looking for. But the above is what we have doen with our kids and we can totally recommend them.

Have fun!

I think everything people have said so far is true...and all of the resorts are great...You need to decide where your'e going to spend most of your time and how important are a resorts ammenties and its location. That given I'll give my plug for the Beach Club. Why? you might ask. Well its a relaxing resort with a great location. Since we've been several times now we dont spend all day at the parks. We end up going back and forth at our leisure. Here are some pluses for Beach Club.

1. Pool - This pool is wonderful. White sand bottom with varying depths and currents. A really fun pirateship water slide and a sand bar for the little ones. This is a great feature. You can order a simple lunch( which for kids comes with a bucket and shovel ) and sit by the pool. Order a nice fruity drink( or beer for myself ) and let the kids enjoy themselves. I've never condisered myself a pool person..but once I learned how to relax and enjoy the atmosphere..ive really come to enjoy it.

2. Beaches & Cream - This is a nice little Ice cream/ Burger restaraunt right next to the pool between the beach and yacht club. They make a great choclate malt and if you have that old fashioned burger and fries feeling it can't be beat. But the real reason to go here is to order the 'kitchen sink'. yep its a real metal sink filled with ice cream and covered with every topping they have and a full can of whipped cream. The kids love it....when they deliver it they turn the lights off and make a big announcment. I havent been able to finish yet. :)

3. The Boardwalk. Your a couple of minute walk..or a nice little boat ride across the lake to the board walk. Theres an ESPN Zone, a great little bakery, yummy spoodles italian food, a micro brewery, dance club etc. You can rent family bikes, get your hair braided, play boardwalk carnival games, watch variety acts...and at night you can even see the fireworks from epcot.

4. Epcot. I realize this isnt everyones favorite park but it can be a very relaxing park to vist for part of the day. And the back entrance to epcot is right next to Beach Club! You walk in right at England in the world showcase. Sometimes I take a break while the family is at the pool and try the beers of the world while a walk around( I know beer again..but hey its my vacation too ). Its really nice if you want to make dinner reservations at one of the countrys. We sometimes goto MK for the day and then will have dinner reservations at Japan or something and were right there. They also have a nice princess breakfast at norway.

5. MGM. This is a short boatride away from the resort. Makes for a relaxing trip and its fairly short.

6. Marina. They have a nice marina with "mice" rentals etc. We acutally get one of their captains passes where you get so much rental time for any type of boat and bikes. Surprisingly everyone in my family liked going on each of the boats. You can even put some sandwhichs and a few drinks in a bag and make a nice lunch out of it.

There are many other reasons..but i find the whole thing very relaxing and exciting at the same time. I love coming back there after a day at the parks...just being there makes me unwind and at the same time your in the middle of so many things.

you can not go wrong with the AKL. Although it does not have Disney characters coming out of the woodwork (and that may be a blessing after hitting the parks!) it is a beautiful resort and kids will LOVE the animals and the pool. It is just a short bus ride to the parks. My children were the same age as yours when we went to the AKL and they loved it. You can request a room with bunkbeds but be prepared for the kids to fight over the top bunk. Have a great time.
