We were at the Grand Floridian this past January. It is very quiet during that time of year but it was great. I believe our AP rate was either $199 or $209 per night. It was cold in the mornings and evenings so we slept in, went to the park during the day (spent time at the spa) and had dinner and listened to the orchestra in the evening. It was great.
We were there in January of '03. We ran into a cold snap and were so glad we were at the WL. We almost stayed at the Poly that trip, but with the cold weather, it just wouldn't have been as magical.

We were at WDW during the cold snap as well. I have to agree about the WL. We love the Polynesian and the first time we went in January we stayed at the Polynesian. We had beautiful weather, 85 and sunny I was glad we tried the WL on our next January trip in 2003. The temps were freezing one night. It was was nice having a hot tub. I was also glad there was a lodge, when it's cold outside I like to be in one building. This past January we had average temps, so again it was nice to have the hot tub and be in a lodge.
Having said that I don't like to stay at the WL in the summer. We will be at the Polynesian this August
We are seriously considering the WL.
Do the boats run in the cold? And if they do do you want to be on them?
The lodge theming also seems to go with the cold weather.
Anything to do at night?
We were at AKL this past Jan., during the bad cold snap! How nice to have the fireplaces going - and to be able to sit out at the firepit at night. The animals loved the cooler weather and were out all the time. AKL only has bus service so you don't have to worry about cold boat rides!
Yes the boats run all of the time. The bigger boats have inside seating.
We have three kids so we were in the hot tub or pool every night. The pools are heated. The lounge looked very nice. We got a couple of drinks to take down to the pool. The EWP goes by the resort every night.
I agree with Harambe about the AKL. Both resorts have fireplaces. The AKL has a list of activities at the resort. We have yet to do them all.
