DH wants a MacBook Pro for Christmas. He's always so low maintenance..:rolleyes1 Where should I be looking for the best deal? I know I can buy a refurb on Apple. Should I be looking now? I seem to remember deals after Thanksgiving on the site last year. I bought mine at Best Buy but would like to save a little on the second one.

Thanks!

I'd like to know the answer to that too. DD17 has declaired that a Macbook and a gas card are the only things she wants for Christmas this year. So her dad and I are going in halves (hopefully). The best deal I can come up with is $849 for a refurbed one using my H&R Block employee discount through the apple website.

How do you find out if your company offers an employee discount? I'd be thrilled with $849.

My company has the same thing. Ours is a 7% discount, which almost covers the tax. :rotfl:

Discounts on Apple products are few & far between, but I honestly feel they are worth the price. I also highly recommend getting the AppleCare extended warranty. We got a 3-year warranty on our MacBook Pro, which I think was about $300, but it covers everything. We've gotten a new battery, 2 new AC adapter cords, had a stuck CD removed from the CD drive, and a broken key replaced on the keyboard - all for no additional cost, no questions asked. They've also given me new headphones for my iPod when I've been in for the MacBook, when I couldn't even find the warranty information for the iPod. Apple has great customer service, IMO.

The refurbished price is the same whether you are on a company discounted site or just on the regular website.

I absolutely agree with this as well! Especially if you are getting a MacBook and not MacBook Pro. The white MacBooks cases are known to crack and with AppleCare they will replace the case for free for up to 3 years.

I second the refurb mac option. I've had mine for about 3 years now and it's been great. I've had one problem and according to the research I've done, it's not a refurb problem but just a regular problem. I called the store, made a repair appt, and they fixed it in less than an hour. I'll definitely buy a refurb again when the time comes.

My daughter just got one about 2 months ago. Paid $1500.00 and got 3 year Apple Care, Iwork office program, and a 8 gb Ipod touch with a $200 rebate!!!
She had to use her College ID. She loves loves it :thumbsup2
We now have to get one for our son for Xmas ;)
Does your daughters school offer any discounts I know my sons High School does.

You may want to delete your link because sharing it on a message board like this could get your employer H&R block in trouble and could cause Apple to cease the EPP discount program for you.

I didn't post the Block link. The posted link is for another company. But I agree, I would definately delete that post.

You may also want to consider a squaretrade warranty. Their warranties are half the price of apple and they often have coupons to make them cheaper.

$849 for a Macbook PRO or a regular macbook (refurb). For a pro, that's a great deal even for a refurb.

My husband bought me one for Christmas last year right after Thanksgiving. It was from Mac Connection. Brand new, baasic Mac Book for $888.

If you are a government employee or student, you can get a discount through Apple but the outside catalogs usually have better sales.

the government has a discount program too just look up apple goverment discount ... i don't think they even check if you work for the government ... hubby got his with the government discount we didn't feel safe with referbished because my bil got burned... he bought a referb one quit working after 2 months and they claimed he had spilled soda on it because there was dried up coke inside but he didn't figures it was the previous owner and it never got properly cleaned during the referb and apple refused to repair it....

anyway hubby is a government employee but they didn't require any proof of it... also i think any kind of education qualifies for the education discount including children in school but i'm not 100% on that.

Do these offer the same coverage as the AppleCare plan? My AppleCare is up next year, and I'd like to extend the warranty if I can.

Yes, kids in school or teachers and admin can get a discount. Govt employees have to show id when in an Apple store in order to get the discount. I've watched my husband show it to them many times as he buys stuff from them.

If you get a square trade warranty, who fixes your computer? Not Apple?

Thanks for the heads up but i am able to share the link.
