my kids have so much paper from school I'm going loopy! I just need a scanner for spelling lists, important forms, etc. so they don't get thrown out, lost, etc.... And, of course, tax forms etc...

Want cheap, but functional. I have a printer (laser), so is my only cheap-o option with a color jet? sigh...

do you mean a multi-purpose one? We bought a scanner (just a scanner, not a multi purpose) for the sole purpose of scanning photos, couldn't put out the $300 for the top of the line one. We bought a decent one for $100. Probably not budget for you but for what we were using it for, it is. I think there were one or two more below that though. They didn't seem to advertise them, had to go instore to look. I think they had only 6 models to choose from. Sometimes those all-in-ones can be put on a good sale.

salescircular.com is a good place to see if there is something advertised on sale in your area.

Another good place to look is newegg.com We sign up for the email and get sales sent to us once a week. The sales are not advertised on site, need the email for the coupon code. I know a lot of other members like tigerdirect.com and buy.com. I have no experience with tigerdirect and I won't use buy (personal, I don't like their shipping policy).

Thanks...I'd prefer a scanner alone, but if it has to be multipurpose, so be it :rotfl:
I'll check out your suggestions!!!

I just checked my email. newegg sent out a newsletter today.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...810-_-PrinterInkjetPrinters-_-LH3C-_-28103412

There is an all in one epson for $79, normally $99, msrp $129, this is the coupon code: EMCYZNW64

There is also a Canon all in one for $129, normally $149, msrp $199

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...810-_-PrinterInkjetPrinters-_-LH3D-_-28102357

Coupon code: EMCYZNW65

Both have free shipping. I think there would not be sales tax unless you live in CA. I didn't see any scanners, just those two multi-purpose.

Hope that helps.

Im partners in a computer shop and have several scanners even some highend models but for every day stuff believe it or not we keep coming back to a $25 Hp all in one unit I picked up the day after thanksgiving.

It really works well surprisingly and is xp and vista/7 compatible.

Newegg has some good deals like they said also if you decide you want a standalone model.

the OP does want a stand-alone. I just posted the newegg deals because I don't think they'll be able to see the specials/coupon code without the newsletter. Not sure if you sign up today, if you would get them.

I have this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-LiDE100...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265124847&sr=8-1

It's a Canon Lide100, and it's currently $53 at Amazon. I just tried it out for the first time recently, and I'm impressed at how fast it is, even when I set it to a higher DPI to do detailed photo work.

I also have a Brother All-In-One that has a scanner, but I will only use it for documents. It just doesn't do a good enough job on photos to satisfy me. Other than that, I love the Brother AIO...I can buy generic ink refills for it online for less than $2 each.
