i decided to book a least minute trip to DL with my 3 boys age 6, 9, and 11. My husband isn't able to come due to work. So I'm looking for a cheap option that also feels safe since I'll be on my own. Amenities are not important except for free parking (Since we are driving down from NorCal). We will be driving in on a Thursday evening, going to the parks all day on a Friday and leaving on Saturday so just need a safe and clean place to sleep. Any thoughts on Super 8? Travelodge? Others to consider?

Motel 6 Maingate is our go to for a cheap, clean, free parking motel when we just need a night or two! It's about 3/4 of a mile from the park. There is an ART stop at the motel.

I have researched high & low lately. I just booked Motel 6 Maingate through hotels.com and was able to get it $105/night and they have a code for 10% off. So I got 3 nights for $338.60 with taxes. This is for 10/14-10/17, everything else is $189+, that is anywhere remotely close to Disneyland. The other option depending on your dates is getawaytoday.com, they have really good prices sometimes. I just booked our 11/30-12/4 trip and got Portofino Inn & Suites for $383 for 4 nights. This will be our first stay at either of these places, hoping for them to be good :) I don't need fancy, just clean and close to Disneyland!

I've stayed at the Alpine Inn, which is around the corner from Desert Palms, a few years ago and it was alright. Not too long of a walk (I didnt have kids though so that might make a difference) and I felt plenty safe walking late at night. I believe it was free parking then but that may have changed since. It's a super basic motel, so if you're just looking for a place to sleep it fits the bill.

I've also stayed at the Stanford Inn further down the street. I split a small suite with friends and it was super cheap with plenty of room for everyone, so I imagine base rooms are very affordable as well. It's too far to walk directly but you can walk to the Toy Story lot and take the Disneyland shuttle from there. It's also very basic but felt clean and staff were friendly. Free parking last time I stayed there and I believe free breakfast too (just donuts and small fruits though).

We've stayed at Super 8 on Katella a few times before. We actually stayed there when it was, believe it or not, $44-$60 a night (wasn't too long ago, either! I want to say maybe 5-6 years ago?). I think it has doubled in price since then. It was/is a clean, no frills hotel. The people down on that corner (Harbor/Katella) can get a little sketchy late at night, though. Of course this was a couple years ago, so things might have changed. They took out some of the sketchier motels on that corner and put in some nicer hotels on Katella now, so things definitely might have changed. It was my mom, younger sibling, and myself so that might have also played into feeling a little uneasy walking so late at night.

Me personally? I would try to look for something that is as close to across the street as possible, especially if you have kids with you. If you're driving back and forth to a hotel, then I would say you're completely fine with pretty much any hotel.

The Anaheim Plaza Hotel is right across on Disney Way and it is fairly cheap. I would check into that one to see if it has any availability.

Hope you're able to find something!

I recommend Super 8 on Katella and checking Hotel tonight app for the best last minute deals too :)

What other locations do you visit, and do you have a Frequent Hotel program (which are free), they all have some pretty good deals.

My Main one I use is Choice Hotels, so that is the Quality Inn, and Comfort Suites.

Wyndham is good, and has a good decent promotion for its members and Super8 and Travelodge are part of the program.

https://www.wyndhamrewards.com/trec/consumer/home.action

So don't look just at the price, though both programs state the rates you get are the lowest available (to the public), also the other perks, such as the rebates in gift cards, etc...

Sorry was at work when I replied so wanted to come back and go more in depth.

Super 8 katella was my go to because it is still walk able but can also use the toy story shuttle a quick drive away if you prefer. The only reason we don't stay there now is we used to get rates of $75-80 and now it's closer to over $110-120 and we can often go across the street or HOJO AP rate for most weekends close to that/ or use the Hotel Tonight App , as we also come from NorCal. Rewards programs like Wyndham are great as I'm a member myself but only if you stay at that brand enough to keep the ranking and not lose status/points , otherwise often Orbitz , Hotel Tonight , and Cheap tickets with promo codes can work out.

Other board favorites I've heard are Stanford Inn and Suites , Baymont Inn , Comfort Inn as well.

motel 6 is going to be clean as they have no carpet or comforters, so if you choose Motel6, bring your own blankets, area rugs for the bathroom. they also have no dressers, so maybe a card table, in terms of safety, the large office does face out on to the entry way and parking lot is also in the front. My suggestion is to walk thru MRI and to leave the park with other groups of folks who are leaving, many people walk to those area lodgings around 8-9. and you can enter the room walkways thru the office and elevator. The walk on the first block can be somewhat intimdating with no business or lighted lots

The last night we went we stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton which is across from the outlets and they have a free shuttle to disney. This time, going end of the month we booked the Super 8 on Katella. I do a ton of research and this seems like a safe choice, free breakfast(better than nothing!), free coffee all day, across the gardenwalk shops, restaurants etc.. and only about a 15min walk to disney.

I've stayed at Travelodge. Furnishings were dated, but my room was huge. Options for walking are to cross Ball and walk along up the overpass until you connect with the walking path from M&F or if they'll let you, go the other way on Ball, walk through the CM lot and take the stairs up to walk across M&F and take the shuttle. If you do the latter and are turned away by security it's a much longer walk to go back. There is much less foot traffic than on Harbor, so not sure how safe that feels to you. Have you considered staying further away and driving in both days?

Another vote for the Alpine Inn. Call the motel directly for the best rates.

Castle Inn is a good option. They are clean, walking distance and have reasonable prices. Since it is just across the street, it is very safe.

another vote for Motel 6 MainGate, which is actually on Disney Way, one block from Anaheim Garden Walk. I am a solo traveller and I have stayed there in 2016, 2015 and 2014. I use ART both to and from the park. Most times I get the ART back to the hotel around 11.30pm and feel perfectly safe. The rooms and beds are huge, kingsize. There is a small convenience shop in the lobby and there is free coffee until 10am.

Castle Inn is a good option. They are clean, walking distance and have reasonable prices. Since it is just across the street, it is very safe.

CAMELOT INN is right across the street next to Tropicana but Castle Inn is a bit farther across from Candy Cane Inn. Both are good though, Staying at Camelot Inn first time this weekend actually but love Castie Inn too for free parking.

Anyone stayed at the la Quinta? That's where we have our reservations for October but haven't heard too much about it anywhere. Makes me a little nervous.

Castle Inn is across the street from the resort--lines up approximately with RSR. We've stayed there several times and like it.
