This was back in 2007. Toontown opened at 10:00, an hour after the rest of MK, and Characters would walk out to the rope at 10:00, and choose a few children from the front of the group to walk in with to "open" Toontown. The child that walked in with Goofy got to ride Barnstormer with him.

We had seen this happen a few days earlier in this same trip, and DD was determined that she was going to be in the front of the line on our next MK day. I agreed to let her wait, but kept warning her that the procedure might be different that day- characters might not come out, they may open Toontown from the train station first, they may choose different children, etc. But she wanted to try. We waited and waited, and looked rather silly waiting all alone by the Toontown rope for a half an hour. As it got closer to 10:00 more people arrived to wait at the rope. But when the characters came out, Goofy headed right for her, and took her hand. I wonder if Goofy and some of his friends had noticed her waiting there so long.
