Best change my signature

Well i'd best remove the ''BIG FAMILY VACTION TO WDW BOOKED FOR AUG 2009'' line from my signature, being as we were booked through Travel City direct, which has today collapsed under the XL air group!!!! I know this is a little :offtopic: , but i have never posted on the WDW site and to be honest, me, DH, DB, DSiL, DN & DM are all gutted!!!

I know there are people in a lot worse situation than us, who are travelling sooner, but we are so :sad2:

Oh I am so sorry. I don't really know what to say :confused3 other than that. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I would feel absolutely gutted too.

Is it just your deposit that you've paid? Or had you made any further payments? Is there any chance you can look at going with someone else, maybe Virgin? I know they have recently reduced their prices for next year.

Similarly I wish there was something I could say about how I understand how you must feel. But in truth I don't. I would be devestated.
As Elaine says hopefully you will get something else through insurance :)
 
Yes we had only paid the deposits which was £840. We can claim it back from ATOL, but obviously its a huge relief to know that.

Just hunting out another package now, but we now won't be getting the early booking discounts we qualified for on our original booking. But like I said earlier there are people in much worse situation than us.

Still we still ahve our trip to DLP to look forward to in 5 weeks:banana:
 
Hopefully you will be able to reclaim your money back and re-book elsewhere.

I feel your pain!!

I'm going away in 3 days (booked xl.com flights) and woke up this morning to the news!!

I didnt even bother doing anyresearch or anything and just booked the first flights I could lay my hands on!! (At an extortionate rate!!)

Hopefully mastercard will refund our XL money, but nothing was going to come between me and my holiday!!

Have you considered booking up the 7 for 14 offer with free DDP? Its very tempting!!
 
Sharon, someone has just posted on the UKTP that has booked a near equivalent holiday for £800 less than they were originally paying with TCD so don't give up hope. Here's some :wizard: and lots of :hug: :hug: :hug:
 
I feel so sorry for the families affected by this. I think as an adult you can rationalise these things and accept in some way that they do happen but trying to explain to kids why the holiday they are looking forward to has just gone must be really hard.
 
Awww bless you. It's so hard explaining these things to kids. I hope you get your deposit back without too much hard work! And manage to find another holiday at a decent price.

Slightly OT but we flew to Cyprus a few years back with XL - on our flight home we got to the airport and they announced that one of their air carriers (sorry can't remember name) had gone bust so we were travelling with one of their other air carriers - was all a bit odd and it did make me wonder if XL itself were having 'bleak' times IYSWIM.
 
I hope you can recover your deposit and book another holiday with a different company. I was shocked when I discovered TCD were part of the XL group. My secretary is really upset at the moment as she has flights to Egypt booked through XL for November and at first she hadn't been aware as she had booked through Teletext) that her flights were with XL. She is now trying to recover her money and seek alternative flights.

Oh I'm sorry there seems to be quite a few deals around at the moment though, hope you get sorted out :grouphug:
 
Sorry to hear about this - check out the post on the UK Trip Planning board about Thomsons Travel Agents taking over bookings. The info is in that post but it has saved a bad situation for many of the posters over there.

We flew with xl.com to turkeylast week - flew back on Monday night. Bit of a close shave I suppose. I feel very sorry for those that actually showed up at the airport - or were even ON planes - when it all collapsed.
 
Hi, just thougtht I'd let you know that we've re-booked our holiday today. We are now going with Virgin. Its costing us another £800, but at least we we have got something sorted.
