Ok- I know most of you have SLR cameras, but I figured you'd be able to help! I'm looking at purchasing a new camera but only want to spend around $250. I'm looking at the Canon SX110 SI. From research- it looks like a pretty good camera. Anyone have any experience with this one or a similar camera that might be better?
TIA! I'm going shopping today!

the cannon sd880.....From the reviews I read, nothing bad, all great stuff in this little point and shoot.......And it cost $240 at dell.com

Thanks! I looked at that one too- but the optical zoom is only 4 and the one on the SX110 SI is 10X optical zoom.
Does anyone know anything about these too?

Ok- bought the sx110 IS today. 14 day return policy- so I'm really checking the camera out to see what it can do. I played with it for nearly 2 hours and had to replace the batteries- I had read that it ate up batteries- but my goodness!!! Other than that- I'm trying to learn about the settings and see what kind of pictures it will take. Doing so-so as of now- I know that I've got to learn the camera.
I looked at the sony one that is along the same lines as this one- it was about $30 more due to a different battery... wondering if I shouldn't have gone with that one considering my battery experience today! Any experiences with this or other cameras that compare to this one? I do like the camera so far though!

Get a couple sets of lithium ion rechargeable batteries and charger, this will save a ton of $$$, but make sure they are "good"

The Canon SX110is can not use lithium ion- only the NiMH rechargeable or actual AA batteries
OP- did you get it at Sam's Club- It is $224.95 there- I am looking for the Canon SX10is at a great price!
I wish I could get less than $300 locally but it looks as though I will have to break down and buy it over the internet-
I am still hopeful! I am even looking at coupons I could use at retailers- Well, back to my search- After Sunday I am buying- I have been searching for 3 weeks!
Have fun with yours!

Sony batteries are proprietary so they aren't cheap, and no matter what camera you get you will need and should have at least 1 spare back up or one spare set of back ups. I usually carry 2 or 3 spares because if you are taking a lot of photos (like on a trip) you won't always be able to take the time to recharge your one battery. I don't want to risk not being able to get a shot due to dead batteries. That would suck. I would get the rechargeable batteries (Whatever type your camera takes) and get a couple of sets. Don't get the quick charging type -- they die and don't hold the charge long enough.

Regular AA's don't last at all in a camera. Definitely invest in some good rechageables. When we travel we use lithium. They last a long time. A friend of mine took her Canon SX110is to Africa on a safari. Worked out very well.

Do the rechargable batteries really last longer? Will they last as long as Sony's lithium batteries? I played with the camera a little last night and took a few picuters this morning and the darned batteries died again. I am going to do something- either try rechargable batteries or try the sony DSC-H10/B- I've read several reviews on the canon sx110si that batteries are a problem- but don't know if those people bought rechargable batteries or not.
Ideas and thoughts will be greatly appreciated......

My mistake. Was just thinking thru the AA situation without looking at the type. They add weight to the camera(never having owned a AA camera).
I am waiting for the SonyHX1 or the Canon SX1IS, but not in a rush. Do not expect to travel until August.

What would be considered 'good' rechargables? What should I look for- I want to be sure they last a while- we are going to the beach this summer and Disney in Nov- so I really want them to last!

The ones many people like eneloops(sp). A individual circuit charger(charges each battery individually) seems to be very important.
