Best cabins?

I am planning a trip to Fort Wilderness this fall and staying in a cabin with my husband, 8, 7, and 6 year old. It is my understanding I can request a cabin? Or a specific Loop? We have never been to Disney before and wanted to get some opinions on the best cabins to stay in.
We will not have a car, and probably not a golf cart.

All the cabins are identical so there is really no one best cabin. As for loops if being nearest the cabin area pool the consider the 2500 or 2600 loops. In those instances I would ask for either the highest or lowest available in the loop. We were happy in the 2300 loop closer to Big Pine Drive pool was a short walk as was the bus stop

We have requested loop 2300 for our daughter so they would be closer to us in our FH RV site in (hopefully) loop 2100 in April.

Morrik the last cabin trip for us we were in 2322 and were very happy. Close to the exit onto Peacock drive that the walk to the bus stop was less than 2 min. but we never really heard buses on that road or going to and from 2000 loop on Big Pine Dr. Often in the morning we could enjoy our coffee on the deck and see deer crossing the small drainage canal behind the cabin.

Susan H,

The best loop depends on how your vacation is built. For example, if you want to use Disney buses to go to EP/AK/DHS, I would suggest getting in the front (nearest to the entrance of the loop) of 2800. It's a short walk to the Outpost bus depot up at the main parking lot to go to those parks. There is also an internal bus stop close to it that is shared with loop 2700. This link has a Fort map for reference in post #8:

The Outpost is also the place to get a bus for Disney Springs or the water parks. So it would be convenient for you in that respect. If you don't want to walk, your internal bus stop is the first one the bus will make after it leaves the Outpost or the last before it arrives at the Outpost (depending on direction). However, for the distance you would walk to the internal bus stop, that's about half the distance you would have to walk to the Outpost. So up to you.

Use the internal bus stop to bus down to the boat dock for the MK. It will also stop throughout the campground including at the Meadow Trading Post/Pool area and the Campfire Sing-a-long/Movie area.

There are other loops that are convenient to internal bus stops and the quiet pool that is in the cabin area but 2800 would best fit your needs. When we have the big runs at WDW (Marathons and Half Marathons), cabin guests prefer 2800 for the reason I gave (the runners' buses load at the Outpost really early like 4am so the shorter the walk, the more they get to sleep in).

PS - when you get your cabin number, for it to be near the loop entrance it either has to be very low like 2801 or 2802 or either very high (I don't know how many cabins are in the loop). But when checking in, explain to the CM that you want to be close to the loop entrance. They will have heard that request before and understand why and will do their best to put you in an available cabin.

Without a car or golf cart if you stayed in either the 2800 or 2700 loop you would be in walking distance to the outpost to get the buses to everywhere except MK. We found if we missed an internal bus to the Outpost it was quicker to walk The internal bus stop is at the end of the loops and you could even walk to the pool for the cabins.

The 2600, 2500, and 2400 cabins would be a further walk to the outpost but near the pool for the cabin.

The 2300 and 2200 loop you would want to take the internal bus to the Outpost but could still walk to the cabin pool.

Below is a chart I made up using google maps so the distances are approximate. Hope it helps.

edit: It didn't format quite right so the first mileage is for the Outpost, second for the pool for the cabins, 3rd for the Meadows, and last for the Settlement. I will try and fix it later. The front of the loop means by the Peacock Pass and back means at the furthest part of the loop to Peacock Pass.
