Best Budget Paint?

What are your recommendations for budget paint? We are planning on painting the office and hallway but don't want to pay a ton, yet want good results. We bought some "cheap" paint before at walmart, and had to do about 6 or 7 coats before it finally looked ok. Any advice is helpful!

I don't how much we paid but we went with Behr from Home Depot for our entire house. We had a major house fire, the whole interior was rebuilt, we chose a different paint color for each room in the house (that's how it was before the fire, we had painted before we moved in), it's been 4.5 years since we moved back in and the paint still looks great. I wanted the eggshell finish, I hate shiny paint, and it looks great, easy to clean too.

I've had good luck with "oops" paints at Sears and Home Depot. You can save about 50%.

We just moved to a new (to us) home over the summer and every room was white (except the master, which was pink) and painted every single room. I love Sherwin Williams paint! It goes on so well and covers well. I prefer the Duration, although it's not "budget," but the Superpaint also gets the job done. My little boy's room got painted in Behr paint from Home Depot (in Mickey colors) and I just wasn't as happy with how it covered.

I was going to suggest either Behr or Sherwin Williams, so I'll second them!

Thanks for asking OP. :thumbsup2 I told DH last week that the entire house, except for the white room, is geting repainted this spring. We previously used Behr colors and I don't like the lack of durability or the way it covered. I think we'll go with Sherwin Williams this time.

The white room - it's a small windowless room that doesn't get much use so the white is fine. It's my scrapbook room so I wanted it bright.

We used the Behr Premium Paint/Primer for Home Depot and it was AMAZING!!! We painted a huge accent wall in our apartment a bright peacock blue color and this paint was one coat and DONE! While this paint wasn't the best "budget" paint, in the end, it comes out to be the same price if you have to buy paint and primer and you are finished in only one coat!

As long as you do not want white, go to a Sherwin Williams or call and ask them if they have any mistints. They can take a mistint and make it into the color you want, if the mistint is somewhat close or pick a color that they have. We have tons of them around here, so just call around or go to see what color you like. They usually sell them for under $5 which is good for $30a gallon paint.

I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for when it comes to paint. My MIL swears up and down $12 gallon of paint from WM is just as good as a $30 gallon of paint from HD but it's not. If you have to paint a room with 5 or 6 coats you aren't saving a thing. I have to agree with the above post the Behr premium paint that has the primer already in it is amazing. I painted a hot pink room with a medium blue in one coat. It is the only paint I will ever use.

I am also another oops painter. I look at lowes, walmart, and home depot pretty regularly. I have gotten yellow from walmart, plum from lowes, and a brown from walmart so far. I have used the yellow and plum and loved both. I have painted my half bath green with regular price paint but I waited until lowes had it 5 dollars off a gallon. Both from lowes were valspar, but the plum was the signature valspar and it did much better with covering.

I used to swear by Benjamin Moore, but it was soooo expensive. I used the Walmart paint in the basement and hated it. I've tried both Behr and Valspar and would recommend either of those. I actually liked Valspar better than the Behr paint.

oops paint is great! DH built DD a dollhouse for Christmas and I wanted green, brown and pink paint. One trip to Lowes and they had exactly EXACTLY what I wanted. Rather than $31.96 each, they were $8 each.

My dad is a very good painter (they've purchased homes to re-do and re-sell)...He SWEARS by good old ace paint! My home has also been painted with ace paint and it's very durable and easy to clean! I like it, it's cheaper and 1/2 the time it's on sale with a coupon or rebate of some sort!
