I want to buy furniture for my room. I went to a couple web sites and saw nice and inexpensive furniture. I then went to JC PENNY/Rooms to GO and saw EXPENSIVE furniture. I dont want to buy cardboard furniture(the cheap one) but I dont want to spend over $1000 on
1 drawer dresser six drawers
1 night stand
1 mirror
1 not sure what is called is like a armoir but no space for a tv. Is like the 6 drawer dresser but 5 drawers and straight up. Its tall not long

Rooms to Go has been running ads about an entire bedroom set for $899.

I have never been to an IKEA store, as we don't have them here in Florida, but maybe they would have something that would work for you as I hear they are very reasonable.

Another place that has very reasonable prices is a CORT furniture place. They have furniture that is in different price ranges that have come from mostly corporate relocations and upscale hotels. Try the website for locations and they have a coupon that you can print off their website for an additional 10% off.
My neighbor bought their son some furniture for his apartment and it looked very nice. I don't know what she paid for everything, but they bought a bunch, so they must have gotten a great deal.

Do you have an IKEA near you? They have good furniture that is not too expensive. Just make sure that you go more for the real wood stuff they have and not the laminate, it's better. I have two 4 drawer dressers of theirs that I use as dresser and nightstands. Just check out their web site. IKEA.com.

If there is any way at all to NOT use Room To Go then plaese do not. They have good prices but their furniture is cheaply made and the service is worse thatn the construction.

You gotta go to IKEA. Their furniture is good stuff but you have to assemble it yourself. We furnished our entire living room for $1500. We got a coffee table, couch, 1 overstuffed chair and 1 regular chair, a desk, a bookshelf, a TV cabinet, 6 baskets, 2 lamps and 4 window blinds. It took me 2 days to put it together but that was 3 years ago and it still looks brand new.

Target has nice stuff made by a division of Thomasville. I've seen the same type of stuff at Wal-Mart and k-mart. IKEA is good. Costco is good (but a bit more expensive).

IKEA has furniture that is inexpensive, I was able to furnish my bedroom for about $600. The wood or leather pieces are more and you have to put it together but so far I've found that it is well made and worth the prices.

Was going to say the exact same thing.........it is junk. It is best to buy good quality furniture, it will last a lifetime even if you have to buy it piece by piece!

Slumberland, Wicks and those types of stores often have package deals for less then $1000. Honestly, there isn't really a "best" inexpensive furniture. It is inexpensive because it isn't made that well and won't last that long. It probably doesn't really matter what you buy.

I have an Ashley bedroom set.. Some of their stuff can be pricey but if you have an Ashley store in your area they run good sales.

Go anywhere, just NO ASHLEY furniture. Everything we bought from them fell apart within weeks. . . and this was furniture that we barely used!

Afterwards we talked to one of our friends that worked there and they said not to tell anyone (shhh, don't tell anyone) but they get stuff returned left and right because everything is really cheap.

a couple of tips (i worked in a furniture store for about 3 years in college)-

cash speaks very loudly (a cash purchase can result in a good discount-if you don't like the deal ask to speak to the manager who can authorize a higher discount),

buy at the end of the month (most stores give a cash incentive to the highest selling salesperson in a given month, the initiative to get that can motivate a salesperson to give you a good deal),

if you see an item you LOVE at a higher cost store go to a chain store that carries the same brand. some stores (like brueners) have a "lock" on particular styles for a so many mile radius around their store, but a chain may have a store outside that radius and will arrange for you to buy it from the other location (and save you big bucks),

check out those local area entertain books-we got 25% off our entire bedroom set with a coupon out of one of these books,

ask if the store will be having a "tax freedom" sale. alot of stores do them in the next couple of months to appeal to people getting refunds. they waive the sales tax (if you live in a state with sales tax).

I'm also voting for IKEA, although check out he pieces before you decide as not all styles might suite your tastes. I've seen items at Target that are nicer looking then WalMart and Kmart. Last winter DH and I hit Bon-Macy's furnature store at an end of season sale and got an overstuffed chair (I liked the one I saw at Pottery Barn but Love this one) and an ottoman for less than 750$. The prints compliment eachother and our style, but we weren't too picky. Well, I was, at least on fabrics.

I would definately shop around though. This is the time of year for sales MLK, Presidents Day. So keep this in mind. Also don't be afraid to look at clearance items.

Craigs list!!! Sometimes you can find just the right thing.

Also, unfinished furniture stores sometimes have good deals.

We got our bedroom set at Basset with a 40% of coupon that we get in the mail twice a year.

just thought of another resource. if you have any new construction developments near by check with them to see if they will be selling the model home furniture. they usualy sell it very inexpensivly. some sell the model fully furnished and the buyer sells off the bulk of it to make room for thier own-most will pass along your name to the buyer.

also can check with local realtors to see if they know of someone selling who wants to sell furniture. i got a solid oak china hutch that would have run me around $1500 for $300 because the home seller did'nt want to go to the expense of moving it.

My step sister in law made her own headboard...it is sooo nice and then refinished a dresser from a garage sale so all she had to pay for was the night stand. I think she spent $300 total on whole set and her bedroom looks soo good. A-la trading spaces.

Love Ikea!!! My 14 year old DS put together 2- round coffee/end tables, a regular coffee table, a computer desk, cd boxes and a night stand- all by himself. The furniture is really strong. The computer desk has been moved up a flight of stairs and down the stairs, into storage and out of storage and into our new house and dragged across the room with heavy dinosaur computer equipment on top twice and is still in great shape. We only paid $40 for it for example. If you don't have a store in your area you can get their catalog and they will ship but if you can get to one of their stores it is an adventure. Give yourself plenty of time, at least a couple hours if and when you go. If there is a store in a nereby town it might be worth the drive just to check it out.

We bought most of our furniture from City Furniture and they definately are in Florida. We got really good deals and the furniture is very well made. I have two very active boys, a dh who likes to wrestle with the boys on the daybeds, and a dog and we have not had a single problem with anything we have bought from them.
