Anyway, my all time favorite disney movie is coming to blu ray and dvd on tuesday (Beauty and the Beast). My Bday is on Monday  so i'm thinking about buying myself a blu ray player for under $200.00. But can't find one that has got the best ratings. Can anybody suggest a blu ray that is less then $150-$200.00

I was looking at LG 550 because my brother has it and he usually buys the best stuff but he only rated it 3-4 stars out of 5.... He said it was good and it is on sale for my price range but then again there's other ones out there with better reviews and such.

Can anybody help?

I have an LG and love it! I spent a LOT of time researching what I should get before I finally purchased and you have good and bad of each product. I narrowed it down to LG and Sony.

I ended up getting the LG WiFi Ready Blu-ray Player BD570, but it is a bit above your budget unless you get it on sale (which I did and only spent $180ish).

tigerdirect.com had one for $69 yesterday. maybe it's still available?

I asked DH because he is a geek when it comes to this kind of stuff :lmao: hey he knows it! Anyways, he said Sony. Enjoy!

Hey,
Thanks for your help.
I finally concluded my search at Walmart. :)
Hopefully it will be good.

I decided to go with SONY

Sony BDP-S270 Blu-ray Player
Sony BDP-S270 Blu-Ray Player Link

The only negative thing is it doesn't come with a HDMI cord. :( SO i'll have to search for one. I think i found one at a store called 5 Below. But not sure if it's the right cable. Gonna try my luck. :)

Might buy a Blu Ray Tape if it is on sale. But gonna save bday money for Beauty and the Beast Blu Ray and DVD Combo. I have Snow White DVD/Blu Ray Combo along with Up and Alice in Wonderland (Johnny Depp Version).

You do know that what you linked is not wifi ready, but will require an adapter which is purchased separate? I mean, you could easily hook it up wired if you so wish, but I just felt the need to make sure you knew lol.

HDMI cords... don't buy the cheapest, but don't waste the money on the really expensive ones either. I use ones (both my monitor/computer and Blu-ray/TV use them) that were about $30 a piece.

I nearly bought a Sony, but the reviews pretty much matched my LG reviews. Plus, I got more for a cheaper price thanks to sales!

We just bought one at Best Buy last night for $149, the brand is Insignia, and it's got wifi. You can get uber cheap HDMI cables at NewEgg.

Buy Blu-ray Disc Players based on feature functionality and reliability. The latter roughly tracks with brand reputation. Oppo, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Toshiba, LG, Integra, and Sony have fine reputations for reliability. Emerson, Magnavox, Sylvania, Symphonic, Insignia, Memorex, Coby, Philips, and now Vizio fall into the less reputable category.

man! i totally wasted my gas. i didn't stick around to read that the sony i picked isn't wi fi ready so i came back empty handed. :sad2:

Stilll looking....

I'm sorry!

I've been look around online and didn't have much luck either. Everything within your price point is only wifi ready and not built in.

The one I mentioned earlier in the thread is on sale through Newegg. For some reason it says "wifi ready" but it is actually wifi built in (I should know, I have used it!). It would cost me total $193, but depending on where you live it could change (I pay sales tax since they have a warehouse in my state).

so i think i finally found a decent blu ray player for my price range.

LG BD570

Every blu ray player will have Positive and negative reviews and this one has a total of 4.2 stars out of 5 on Best Buy and 4/5 Stars on Amazon.com .
It has everythign I want (except for the fast load time). BestBuy has it on sale for $209.00 from $219.00 (so I'ts going to be $223.00 with the 7% NJ Sales Tax. But I found the same one at electronics expo for $161.00 ($171.00 with tax).

So now I just have to go get it and will be able to watch Beauty and the Beast (my parents said I called it Booty and the Beast when I was younger). lol. :) I also recently bought How To Train Your Dragon DVD/Blu Ray Combo and with TS3 coming out ! Boo Ya! :)

I already have some Blu Ray Discs

Alice in Wonderland (J.Depp Version)
Snow White
Beauty and the Beast
Up
How to Train Your Dragon
(soon...TS3)

Hmm... welcome to the world of Blu-ray! :)

I don't generally recommend that model because I feel it is overpriced for a non-3D-compatible BD player. Can I ask why you felt that this unit was better than the Sony BDP-S570?

We've really enjoyed our simple Vizio! Got it on an extra-deal sale for 99 bucks at Costco several months ago. We really like Vizio though, and the simple nature of the player works for us. :)

it was in my price range $100-$180.00
Wow... good price! Generally, the Sony I mentioned and the LG you bought have been pretty close in price - the Sony perhaps $10-$20 more, but for that you get the superior functionality and speed. But it looks like you've saved at least $40 over that Sony.

Get your HDMI cables from monoprice.com

We have an LG bluray home theater system and love it. You must get How to Train Your Dragon - it is amazing on Blu.

And join the forum at blu-ray.com - especially for the "hot deals" forum.

I got my HDMI cable for $5.00 at a store called 5 Below. It works just great.
It's fast and it was only $5.00 + tax. :dance3:
