Best Biscuit

A good old-fashioned southern buttery buttermilk biscuit for the win!

I'm assuming you're talking cookies, though... guessing pre-packaged? I like a good classic Nutter Butter or Oreo. Or a soft, chewy Chips Ahoy. I prefer fresh-baked cookies, though.

my homemade chocolate cookies. Nothing bought unless from a bakery.

Here's a question for you - I read a lot and often in British novels they talk about getting out packets of biscuits. I could never serve company prepackaged cookies. Is baking not as common over there or packaged biscuits just really popular.

Not British, but if it is a question of store bought cookies or serving nothing, I will serve store bought cookies. My mom would turn over in her grave if I didn’t offer the best of what I have to my guests, and sometimes that means store bought goodies.

If I know I am getting visitors, I would go to the store and get ingredients to make something to serve. However, I don’t keep baking ingredients in the house to bake cookies for myself, so if I get unexpected company I don’t have a choice. I can almost always make a pitcher of iced tea, but sometimes I don’t even have store bought cookies I can serve. If the doorbell rang right now, the best I could offer as a snack would be my hurricane rations of peanut butter crackers 😂 .

Also, it depends on who is coming to visit. If it’s my sister or close friends, they are just as happy with store bought snacks as homemade and they are more likely to stop by with little notice.

As to my favorite cookie, homemade would be our iced sugar cookies. Store bought would be Pepperidge Farm double chocolate Milano cookies.

Baking isn't all that common. If you have guests, you crack open the pre-bought biscuits. Nice ones though.

Store-bought cookies my favorites are Pepperidge Farm ... Milano, Geneva, Bordeaux, Chessmen. I don't think I've seen the Geneva in a long while though. Their shortbread and gingerbread men are good too. I also like the Dutch butter cookies that come in a tin.

Question ... what are US biscuits like this called in the UK?

Just going on appearance, they look like scones to me? We have them with Cream Teas. Tea, toasty scones, clotted cream, jam. Best enjoyed in fancy surroundings near tea time (obviously) in the summer.

My daughter and I watch a lot of Great British Baking show and had the same question. Consensus on Google was that there really isn't a British version of these.

No, not scones, we have those here too, and the scone is quite a bit more dense than our biscuits.
We don't have an equivalent in the UK. The nearest would be s savoury version of the scone which has cheese in it and is a tad lighter than our regular scones.
