Best bets for vegetarians?

My boyfriend and I are going to Disney World in a few months to celebrate our 4th anniversary. We're on a serious budget for this trip, so we're aiming to eat at table service restaurants only once or twice while we're there.

We're both vegetarians (of the ovo-lacto variety), and I was wondering which places have the best options for vegetarians? I'm particularly interested in table service restaurants, but any tips on good counter service spots would be more than welcome too.

TIA for any tips!

Hello! I'm also an ovo-lacto veggie. Boma in AKL is a terrific buffet with lots of vegetarian options. I have yet to read a fellow vegetarian's review of the place that hasn't been positive. Crystal Palace is another great buffet, but it has characters, which may or may not be a plus for you. Most TS restaurants have at least one vegetarian dish and often it's simply a matter of preference if you want that style of cuisine or not; San Angel Inn has a separate menu that you need to ask for. Breakfast is easy; generally you can find items that are totally vegetarian or just have bacon/sausage on the side so you can opt out of the meat very easily and get fruit or something instead.

Good counter service: Columbia Harbour House and Main Street Bakery in MK, Tangierine Cafe and Sunshine Seasons in Epcot. The Studios and AK are kind of "meh" for vegetarian options, at least that I've experienced, but they are there. Things like veggie burgers and pizza can be had, and a couple of places in the Studios have decent-sounding veggie sandwiches.

another ovo-lacto here! We are a family of 4, all vegetarians and have been each year for 10 days the last 3 years and never had problem. Like pp said, you always have at least, one vegetarian option on each menu. Buffets are good also, at Boma chef TJ made a special dish just for us, some BBQ tofu and noodles!

We love LeCellier, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey, and we tried Sci-fi this sept and they have a nice tofu plate. Lots of place have veggie burgers (Rosies at studios, peco bill, etc) At Columbia Harbour House they have a really good hoummous/brocoli slaw sandwich and veggie chili. Super good tomato/mozzarella sandwich at main street bakery. Look at the menus on allearsnet, you will see plenty of choices!

Have a nice trip!

We also are eggs/dairy eating vegetarians!

Boma is a definite YES, I don't think we'll ever go back to WDW w/o doing Boma. We had CP booked for the next trip, but canceled the trip. :sad2: Breakfast at Chef Mickey's was really good. I ate at about 11:30 to noon and did not eat again until after Spectromagic. That gives you an idea of how full you can get at that buffet.

We had the Basil Mozzerella sandwich at the Main Street Bakery, it was delicious. We were on the dining plan so our CS meal included dessert: a HUGE slice of carrot cake, yummy!

We wanted to try Columbia Harbor House, but each time we went by it was closed, so I think it would be a lunch option only.

It seems the resort CS places are the best deal for dinner type CS meals. We didn't eat there, but the menus did include things like baked ziti and we found the breakfast and lunch options very generous. We ordered the big breakfast platters (eggs, potatoes, bread and meats) without the meats, didn't get any extra helpings to substitute the for the meats and still didn't finish the platter. That meal lasted through pool time, an afternoon at AK 'til our Boma dinner.

just had a piece in veggie counter service restaurants. I've deleted my copy but it may be on their site.

Brief version, Cosmic Ray's and Pecos Bill for veggie burger. They rated it as being above average. Epcot has a lot of choices with the Moroccan TS being one of the best. DHS is wanting. (Isn't it always for TS?) Rosie's and Backlot of burgers which were rated lower than the ones at the MK. And there is cheese pizza at Pizza Planet. DAK is also lacking with cheese pizza as one of the big items.

There is also a nice fruit plate at Flame Tree BBQ, but the smell of ribs might be a turn-off.

My DH is vegetarian and we just spent 21 days in WDW, eating at lots and lots of restaurants (we had the dxddp). Some of his favourite meals were Citricos, Boma and Tusker House. We didn't do many counter service places this trip but The Mara had a great falafel pita, and in the parks his favourites are Columbia Harbour House and Tangierine Cafe.

If you have a look through my dining reviews, you can see the veggie options DH chose at each meal and how he rated them.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I like to order vegetarian entrees when they are on the menu, and if they're not swimming in a cheese sauce.

I really enjoyed the stuffed pepper at 50's Prime Time at DHS. It was stuffed with a grain and ratatouis mixture. I believe it may have been vegan. It was light and tasty.

The best veggie burger I had was at All Star Music. I thought it was much better then Cosmic Rays. At Cosmic Rays I loved the veggie wrap!

Also, if you want a nice snack, you can get a big scoop of Hummus at the CS in Morocco ($2.00) and can order a lovely warm soft round of fresh-off-the-grill pita for another buck.

Have a great time!!

Thanks for the great idea! I am a meat eater, but my DD is a vegetarian. Speaking of hummus, I LOVE the Lighthouse Sandwich at Columbia Harbor House in the MK which is hummus, tomato and a broccoli slaw. Yum! I also have to say that I was not impressed with the Peco Bill's veggie burger. I ordered in once for my DD and it was pretty nasty. Maybe it would taste better loaded up on the fixin's bar, but she doesn't like any of that stuff.

iluvpluto27: Off to read your trip report. I can't imagine 14 days on the DxDDP!

Thanks for the heads up on the veggie s/w at CHH. I will have to try that. I've been a little scared of trying broccoli slaw because I always envision it swimming in mayo.

The Hummus (in Morocco) comes with a few sorry, greasy pita chips. So ordering the pita bread is a must! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

For vegetarians who eat fish and would like to try a signature I would say Narcoossee's or Flyin fish.

Boma always seems to have good options.

Also if you call in advance at most reataurants I am sure the Disney chefs can prepare something for you!

Thanks for all the great tips!

We're definitely going to try to get a reservation at Boma. It sounds wonderful. I'm not sure yet where else we'll try, but I feel a lot better about the options now. Thanks again.

I have found WDW to be lots more vegetarian-friendly than the real world, so you're going to be pleasantly surprised.

I have had GREAT vegetarian meals at California Grill, Tangierine Cafe, Artist Point and Hollywood Brown Derby.

I have had GOOD vegetarian meals at San Angel Inn, Le Cellier, Spoodles, Big River Grill & Brewery, Jiko and Yachtsman Steakhouse.

I have had vegetarian meals at Akershus, Beaches & Cream, Cantina San Angel & the CS place in Wilderness Lodge. These meals were fine, but nothing to write home about.

I hear really good things about (and am going to try) Columbia Harbor House (lighthouse sandwich and veggie chili), Sunshine Seasons, Chefs de France, Boma, Earl of Sandwich, Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Wolfgang Puck Express. I've also heard good things about Crystal Palace lunch and dinner, but my breakfast experience there wasn't so great -- just too crowded.

Lots of places have cheese pizza, but it's pretty ... blah. It's ok, but nothing to go out of your way for.

Look at menus for ideas:
