We are officially on the T minus 7 day countdown to Disney!

With that said, we are actually venturing off the sacred Disney grounds this year. We are planning a jaunt over to Cape Canaveral on a Saturday. I thought it would be nice for my son to see and swim in some "real" Florida water while we are on the coast.

My question is, what is a nice beach we could visit and have dinner on in that area? I have located a Cuban restraunt that does take out, and since we have a rental car this trip, we will be able to stop at Wally World for a cooler and some goodies.

I see that there are several beaches in the area, but I am looking for some suggestions from thoses who know more than I do!

Thanks in advance everyone!

Are you going to see the space center? Or the beach? Because really, if it's a beach you want, it's worth the drive to the gulf side instead.

Atlantic side, I would say Cocoa Beach. It is about 7 miles from the Cape.

Gulfside I would say head over to Clearwater.

We went to Clearwater, Daytona and Cocoa and by far our favorite was Clearwater....we spent 4 days there at the start of our trip.........beautiful warm blue water and powder soft sand.....the other beaches were ocean water not gulf of mexico water so was cooler, more waves and regular sand, but we are glad we went to all of them.........

Well and it's 'clearwater' as you say, versus muddy.

I would agree that if you are looking for just the beach, head to the gulf coast. The beaches and water are so much nicer. Though last year we had to make a stop on the Atlantic coast so the kids could see the Ocean.

The other side of the state. Canaveral is on the east side, Clearwater is on the West/gulf side. I didn't google map it or anything but off the top of my head I'd guess 3-4 hours.
