Need opinions: I want to take my son and son - in - law out for drinks one night on our upcoming trip, what establishment (in parks, resort, or City Walk) has the best bar? Must be somewhere within Universal, not interested in going anywhere from which we can't stagger back to the hotel (HRH).

That would depend on what you find most appealing in a bar. I'm not attempting sarcasm, just mean there are options depending on what you're looking for on any given night.

i'm with RIP on this.
I was thinking like he was.

do you want a loud bar, with lots of music?
maybe one with just piano playing?

do you want one with tables or places at the bar to sit?

are you going for a beer selection?
well drinks?

certain age group clientel at a bar?

i liked Rising Star for the booze and the entertainment.
i liked the set up of tables in the building too.

wasn't loud all the time, only when the amateurs were singing.
could still carry on a converstation with others in the break time.

Two options I suggest are: 1. The Piano Bar at Pat O'Briens; 2. Margaritaville, either inside or on the Porch Of Indecision.

Let me try it this way: where do you guys like to go for a few nighttime drinks?

Probably the bar that says "I'm a man's man" the most is Cigarz in City Walk. No frills. Beer and hard liquor. No froo-froo drinks. And cigars a plenty, of course.

The Thirsty Fish at Portofino or Jakes at RPR. Also love hanging out at The Beach Club Bar at HRH and if you do that the stagger back is your own backyard! Great drinks, great snacks and great bartenders. :thumbsup2

Did the Thirsty Fish last trip, found out later (when the bill appeared on our folio - too incoherent when signing the thing) that our son was doing $35 shots.

So, wiser and planning on paying cash (when it's gone, it's gone), we'll do the Beach Club. I'll trust your judgement, rabbit!

What was that boy doing? Gran Patrón or maybe a top 10 cognac.

See if Tracy is bartending at the Beach-club . :thumbsup2

When are you going?

:woohoo: :thumbsup2

If you are staying at the HRH - sit out on the balcony by Velvet Lounge. There are tables out there you can have a couple of drinks and hang out.

I like Pat O'brians myself, but they may charge a cover if you don't have the party pass or a multi day ticket.

The beach bar could have kids down there if they are doing a swim up movie thing. The Velvet lounge is all adults.

Love this bar.A must for me when at CW.Wife enjoys it to and she doent smoke (very well ventilated).I bar hop and always start here.

If ya go,let me recommend this pairing:A glass of Blanton's Single Barrel,no ice, with a Macanudo Petit Corona. The two complimate each other so well with there taste..:thumbsup2

My only disagreement is an Arturo Fuente Cuban Corona.

Blanton's is most excellent!

I used to smoke the occasional stogie, tried some good cigars when they came back into the mainstream years ago, nothing since. This place sounds like a great idea. . . stir up some good memories.

Never tried Blanton's, but do love its cousin, Woodford Reserve. My brother lives in Bowling Green, KY which is right in bourbon distillery country, he got me hooked on Woodford. My son in law is also a big bourbon lover, but mostly Jack (yea, I know, technically not bourbon). Not sure what my son, he of the $35 last trip shots, is drinking these days but it sure won't be $35 shots unless he's paying for them.

It was some sort of cognac but not, TG, Louis XIII (if they even had that). That stuff is like $125 a shot or some ridiculous price.

Be there in eight days... I really, really can't wait to get there, work has been nutty crazy the last couple of months and bourbon and cigars (and warm weather) sounds sooooooooo good right now.
