My FP window opens later tonight. Does anyone have suggestions on best attractions to book for a 6 year old boy? He has never been on a roller coaster but has been on smaller rides at a local amusement park.

For AK definitely plan on the safari and the rapids. What is tamer, Everest or Dinosaur?

For HS plan on Toy Story and Star Tours. What else might he enjoy?

For MK I think he will like most everything so I will just pick FP for the most popular rides.

It is not age-specific, but the green link in my signature has my FP suggestions.

My fondest Disney memory is chasing my then 3 year-old daughter back to the entrance of Space Mountain moments before midnight with her screaming "one more time Daddy" all the way.

I thinks 6 year old would love just about anything if he meets the height requirements.

I think this is hard to answer since a lot depends on your son. At AK my DS9 will still not go on Everest, but will go on Dinosaur. I think others might find Dinosaur more frightening and love Everest.

Otherwise, I agree to just prioritize the most popular rides.

This, exactly. My 9 year old love Everest but is terrified of Dinosaur, and the 6 year old has loved Dinosaur since he was 4, but still refuses to go on Everest. But he loves Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Tower of Terror.

Everest isn't too bad for a first time coaster. I think Dinosaur would be more frightening and is a little jerky.

As far as the roller coasters go, I would suggest you work your way up. Start with 7DMT, then BTMRR, and then Space Mountain and Everest. I think if you take him on the biggest one first, he may be scared to go on some of the smaller ones.

My son likes our 6 flags "mine train" roller coaster - it's hilly and definitely a real coaster, but no loops and not crazy fast; has a lap bar, not over-the-shoulder kind. At Disney this fall he was almost 7 and LOVED Big Thunder Mountain and 7 Dwarfs, did not want to try Space Mountain or Splash Mountain. I think he didn't like trying something you can't see at all before trying it (except for the big hill/drop on Splash, so all he could see was the "scary" part). Many people report that youtube videos of the rides are a great way to let them preview and choose.

At Epcot, he loved Test Track and lists it as his favorite in all parks combined. At AK, he didn't want to do Everest - that mountain looks pretty high when you're watching and after hearing all the riders' screams, he was content to wait it out! He did like the Primeval Whirl and loved playing in the Boneyard play area while others in our party went on Dinosaur.

At DHS he didn't want to do Rockin Roller Coaster because it goes upside down; his big sister agreed that he'd probably think it was a bit too wild. Hopefully you'll go to MK before some of the other parks, because its rides are great testing ground for what else he'd like. If he likes Haunted Mansion at MK and isn't at all creeped out by it, he may be able to do Tower of Terror. On that ride, I think all the dropping is the craziest part, but both of my daughters (9 and 13) think that part of the ride is just plain fun, but all the creepy theming was a little too scary for them. If he likes the coasters at MK, it gives you an idea what you might try at the other parks.

Those are my assessments of the thrill rides - other than that, my 6 year old liked every single dark ride, "kiddie ride" and show we did. I don't think there was a single thing there he didn't enjoy.

It's not a ride, but a major signature event of our trip was participating in the Jedi Training Academy at Hollywood studios. If he's at all interested in star wars, I highly recommend it. There's a bit of a science to signing up for it, though, so do a search here or post a new questions if you're interested in more details on it.

AK - Dinosaur isn't physically scary. It's jerky, and there are big dinosaurs that pop out and loud noises. Everest is a true roller coaster. However, I think the biggest part is the big backwards drop. DS at 6 was scared of the Yeti, because he used to pop out. The Yeti now is stationary with strobes, no popping.

DHS - Star Tours & Toy Story definitely. He may not be tall enough for Tower of Terror or Rock n Roller Coaster. There's Muppet Vision 3D, Lights/Motor/Action show, Indiana Jones show, and Fantasmic. He might like the Magic of Disney Animation, but the drawing academy may be too much. DS hated Great Movie Ride at 6. I don't like it very much at 40+.

MK - Probably Seven Dwarfs and Thunder Mountain, maybe Splash Mountain and Space Mountain too.

Epcot - Soarin' is great. Mission Space Orange isn't bad, but it could be scary for a 6 year old. Green would be okay though. He's probably not tall enough for Sum of All Thrills. There's also Test Track. Your vehicle gets up to 60-70 mph on a straight and through a turn. We do autoracing, so we all find it a little boring. The tea cups are more fun for us.
