Here is the list. Where does yours fall? How well does your perception match the list?

Mine, software engineer, is #1 and I can't say that I disagree. I also work for a company ranked as the best large company to work for in my area, so I definitely have a good thing going.

So it's all downhill for you, huh? j/k

The list is interesting. Who knew being a professional philosopher paid so well?

The stress index for software engineers seems low to me. When projects heat up, SW engineers are usually the ones who are under the gun. I'm an electrical engineer, the article states that EE's need a masters degree, which is not true.

My job isn't listed, but that's to be expected. There are only a handful of us around.

My salary is in the top 20 of those jobs listed. I work 40-50 hours a week. Stress is low with some peaks, but I have a heck of a good time. I think I have the best job on the planet, but I'm told that is because it suits me.

And what is it that you do HL? I am looking for something new, lol!!

looking at the list of 10 worst jobs, seems as though some of them have extremely low salaries listed for what you would get in my area. Also, I can think of several jobs much worse than a meter reader or construction worker.

My son just graduated with a degree in Philosophy....I can't wait to share this with him. The joke is "What do you do with a degree in philosophy? Ask the pizza man next time he delivers your pizza!"

Now, what I want to know, how does one become a professional philosopher?

I think Im a philosopher. Lately I've been philosophizing about the philisophical philosophies of my philosophy.

Now how to cash in on this, lol

Not surprised math and science are dominating the top 10 -it's a field with a lot of demand but I think not many of us are blessed in it

And, not surprised on the 10 worst either - all physically demanding jobs with low pay, long hours, and risk of injuries.

(I was pleasantly surprised to see my position listed in the top 75!)

Dental Assistant not even on the list.
Dental Hygenist in the top ten
I went to the wrong school for the wrong thing, lol.

Best and worst for whom? I looked at the criteria for the choices, but, honestly, personal preference makes a lot of difference. In my case, I am not a math/chemistry/physical science sort of person. I know I would be miserable as an actuary, mathmatician or engineer.

I did think the the fact that teacher's aide was ranked higher than the job of a teacher was funny.

I'm finishing up school to become a court reporter, which is # 31 on the list. I just looked at the median salary for it, and :scared1: I would REFUSE to do this job if the salary were that low in California. Why do people even do this job when the salary is that low? Court reporting is a stressful job, and court reporting school makes you question your sanity to the point of questioning whether or not you need to be on a lot more meds than you already are..

I was thinking the same thing. The salaries are way off for the where I live.

Here also. I found other aspects off also. I think it would be easy to find very different results based on the survery of choice.

Hmmm..."travel agent" clocked in at 172 on the list. But I love my job. I make waaaaay more than the average listed though.

Pretty low stress, except duing 'weather events', then you want to run away screaming.

My job is in the top 20, DH's job is in the bottom 20. I can see myself retiring at this job, DH won't be able to physically do his that long.

Ugh. Registered nurse came in at #94, just ahead of "Sewage Plant Operator" and behind heating & air mechanic, attorney, and barber.:confused3 I grant you, the stress is extremely high, the pay isn't great and the job outlook sucks. Nursing is NOT a recession-proof occupation and employers know it. If I were in college today, I would NOT go into nursing. When i started out, nursing was all about helping people. Now it's all about the corporate bottom line. You don't like the way things are done? Don't let the door hit you in the behind. They've got 45 people waiting for your place, all of whom are willing to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and will happily lie down and be walked on, singing, "Thank you! Thank you very much!"

In my next life I'm going to be a park ranger at Yellowstone.:thumbsup2

I'm #1,too! :woohoo:

But since I do software support and not development, I think my stress level is higher than the index indicates.
