Best age for twins 1st trip...toddlers?

I know your excited but trust me you should wait as long as you can. 35months sounds about right to me. The matter of those few months will make a difference. You will carry much less around with you at the parks, they'll be able to get on more rides, they'll be able to go around longer without getting cranky, etc. I went when my son was almost 4 and it really was a perfect age. We each carried our own backpack and we brought a umbrella stroller for when he got tired. We have another son who was 8 months old at the time, and we left him at home with Grandma. I cannot tell you how glad I am we did that because it would have been twice as hard to bring a baby.

I, too, pondered this question for quite some time before we decided to take our twins at 34 months. We'll be heading to the World next month for the first time with kids and we're more excited about this trip than ever before. This age is so great because they're remembering things, they talk non-stop about the princesses and Mickey. We accidentally let the trip talk slip a few months ago, so the anticipation has been building for quite awhile! And like all the PP'ers have said, just plan lots of breaks, snacks, naps, swims, whatever it takes to have some down time. You'll have a great time whenever you decide to go!!

DH and I really want to go back to WDW, we are used to going every year and haven't been in 2 1/2 years. We've never been with kids and now have 19 month old twins.

I'm looking for advice for what would be a good age for their 1st trip. We are thinking either October '09 (they'll be 28 months) or May '10 (they'll be 35 months.......

We'd stay onsite and either have a car or be on the monorail, if that matters.

PLEASE HELP....since I've never been with kids, so I'm clueless. :)

We went Sept 08 DSs were 26 months and 10 months. 10 months...yep pretty much sleep thru it LOL not completely but for the most part....DS 26 months COMPLETELY in awe of WDW! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Side note DS 26 has a speech delay, at this point him mimics words but doesn't say much unprompted! Let me tell you "ooohhh, rides, icky(mickey), car, again, yeah, more, juice, ilk (milk), cheese, soooddda, wow, boom (during the fireworks)" was all said by DS Made me completely want to pay whatever price to move into cinderella's castle so I could hear more and more wonderful words.

Also when ever we watch a disney more when the castle comes up before the movie starts....points at the screen ooooohhhh woow coooool.

We are going again in Sept 09 DS will be 38 months and DS will be just shy of 2. We are going again (ok so I can hear DS speak) and also cause we felt that the younger ds was jipped cause he was sleeping a bulk of the time.

Word of advice.....Double strollers/buses are a P.I.T.A.! We are staying at Poly this year just for the monorail factor Plus a bulk of our time will be at MK

Also check out the Single rider lines on "big kid" rides the wait is about 5/10 mins on value season DH and I would do big kid rides while the kids were sleeping so we got to do everest, rnrc, tower of terror. Also if there isn't a single rider line to a Parent Swap You go up to the entrance the attendant sees that you have kids that are sleeping and apparently can't go on the ride anyways (they don't HAVE to be sleeping just saying) and what happens is DH waits in reg line comes out and you go w/ your parent swap fast pass!

Helped us have fun while DSs were sleeping!

One of the things we're doing now (and every weekend) is taking our twins to the mall and walking with them -- not in the stroller. They just turned 2 and are not used to walking on in a public place -- I usually leave them in the stroller or shopping cart or carry them (with dh's help). The little boy is great about it -- he likes his freedom but doesn't wander off. The little girl on the other hand, has a mind of her own.

Based on another thread, I'm considering getting an ERGO for her when she is a problem not staying with us. I don't know exactly how this is going to work yet, but we are preparing ourselves as best we can for whatever happens. We just have to be sure to follow their cues (and not ignore the needs of their older brother who is still not old enough to understand stopping because brother/sister need breaks).

This trip is definitely a planning challenge -- in every way -- but it should be worth it.....

I took DD when she was 2 weeks shy of her 3rd birthday, and it was AWESOME! She and I make good traveling companions, and she did great, even if she didn't have a nap for four days. Even meals were good (for the most part... I did have to put her in time out at Wishering Canyon. That was interesting!).

And it was cheap since she was under 3!

I generally consider DD very mature for her age, but I don't think I would've even tried to take her when she was not quite 2. Over the last year, she's really figured out how to behave, and what happens when she doesn't behave.

I think the Ergo carrier is a great carrier, but if you can, try one first before you buy it. I've used one with all my kids and liked it, but I'm a bit busty and it was hard to get it to fit right.

I've also used a Sherpani lightweight carrier (you can get one at REI, try it for a few weeks and return it if you don't like it--their return policy is the best) and think it's the best lightweight backpack you can buy. I literally used to put a twin in it and do the dishes or vacuum.

Good idea with the walking out in public thing ahead of time. We should have done that more often.

BTW, we're taking ours back in December 09. We decided not to skip the trip--what could possibly go wrong?

Have fun on your trip!

We are taking our twins next week - they're 33 months and I think it is going to be fun! I think it we would have a good time if we'd gone when they were a year or before and not yet scared of the dark, loud noises, etc - but between 1-2.5y would have been a disaster for us. Now, they can walk longer distances (we are still bring the stroller, they are very verbal, can understand things more, and are more easily adaptable (if we miss a nap here or there, it won't be the end of the world.) Plus, they are FREE!!!!:cool1:

We're going to do another big trip when they are 5 or 6 (if I can hold out that long.;) )
