I am very seriously thinking about doing the College Program in the coming years. (I will be a sophomore in college next year) I'm just wondering what people who have done the program think is the best age to do so. I think the main thing I am worried about is being away from home for so long. When I left for school this past year I got extremely homesick. Let me know if you have any advice.

I did my 1st program when I was 21. To avoid getting home sick, see if your parents visits you. One program is about 4 months. Not very long.

I'd say 21, or turning 21 while you are on the program (so for me, that was Spring Semester of Junior year).

It was much easier to figure out things with my school by going during the spring, since I had the fall to figure it out instead of over the summer or several months before--I could bring it until the last minute if necessary.

Also, most of the people I worked with were over 21, so I felt left out initially. Also, being a Junior I had friends established.

It's different for everyone though!

I did my first when I was 19 and didn't really get homesick. Part of that was because I have issues with my father, though, and was happier in Orlando when he wasn't around. My second program was when I was 23, and I had planned to stay in Orlando afterward, but I wound up losing hours because of the economy and then couldn't find another job, blah blah blah, moved home.

On my first program, most of the people I knew were under 21. On my second program, most of the people were over 21.

I think it really depends on the person. I wanted to be able to study abroad, take no summer classes, do the CP and graduate college in four years. Since I wanted to do all these things, I decied to wait until after I graduated to do the program. This plan worked out perfectly for me and I even got to study abroad twice. I think the perfect age just depends on your goals and how comfortable you are being away from your family.

I did the Career Start program the year I graduated from high school, so I was 18 & turned 19 while I was there. I just finished my first year of college & I'm going back in the fall for the College Program. I'll turn 21 while I'm there this time. I'm planning on taking classes over the summer & online classes while I'm there so I don't fall behind again.
