Besides eating, what else are you planning for your reception?

You will speak to them on the prior to the event and you can arrange any things like that and make special music requests etc.

Excellent point, Skylarr29.

There was going to be a full moon on the night of my event. The only request that I had for my DJ was a set of "moon" songs. I gave him the name of one song in particular and asked him to play it and any other song that he felt fit the "moon" category. He whipped off a few names while we were on the phone and I told him they sounded perfect.

On the night of my event, my DJ followed through beautifully. My husband & I danced to the song that I had requested -- and then to the other "moon" songs that the DJ had played. It was a lovely way for me to share a little one-on-one time with my husband. And then it was back to dancing like a wild woman with the rest of my crazy guests. ;)

I absolutely agree. They can work wonders, especially when they are able to gauge the crowd and turn a blah party into a rockin' one.

When I first began looking into a FTW vow renewal many years ago, I remember reading (on another website) how the brides didn't want their DJ playing such & such types of songs. You know... The "Car Wash," the "Macarena," the "Electric Slide," the "Bus Stop," and so on. They thought it was gauche and undignified.

I had to really bite my tongue since I had been to many, many weddings that were dull until the DJ / Band began playing songs like those. As soon as they did, the crowd jumped to their feet and the party got kick-started into becoming quite the memorable evening, if ya catch my drift.

I am so glad I had a DJ who played all those hokey songs. When he and I spoke over the telephone a few days prior to my event and he asked me if I had a "do not play" list, I told him, heck, no. I wanted him to do his thing. He was the professional and I wanted to dance, dance, dance. It worked out beautifully.

Now, this is all my opinion and others' opinions will vary, as it should be. But Starr W., you and I sound a lot alike in this respect. ;)

My cousin is one of those themed dance haters. At least for the chicken dance. She made such a stink about it that it has become a huge thing now. Every wedding has a special dedication for Cousin Lynn now ;) :thumbsup2 (she's a good sport about it)

Oh, you've got me laughing my butt off! TOO FREAKIN' FUNNY. :lmao:

But I am glad to hear that your cousin has a sense of humor about it now, ZPT10022.

One other thing that I forgot to mention when I was posting last night, is that some of the brides were also complaining about "props." They didn't want their DJs pulling out the blow-up air guitars, the huge foam cowboy hats, and any sort of YMCA type of paraphernalia. I could kinda see their point on that; however, I have seen photos of some really elegant affairs at WDW in which those items were not only pulled out but were also enjoyed by the guests.

One particular event that comes to mind is last year's celebrity FTW VR of Telefutura's "Escandalo TV" star, Charytin Goyco. I remember seeing video on Charytin's TV show of her guests wearing Mardi Gras-types of masks, beads, hats, and so on. Click here to see a video clip of her American Adventure Rotunda dinner party.

It looked like one heckuva swingin' party to me. More power to 'em! ;)

Does that not look like the most fun party ever? They all looked like they were having such a good time. I have to say, I am jealous, I'd love to be able to dance like that couple they showed dancing! Maybe it's time for some lessons  because that looked great. The next time I am in the American Adventure and the Voices of Liberty are singing their solemn songs I am not going to be able to help myself from thinking about that rockin' party there!
