There is probably nothing I can do about it now but I purchased travel insurance via AAA when I booked our vacation. They charged me $40 for my daughter who will be 6 months. Does that make any sense?

Are you asking if it made sense to purchase travel insurance? Maybe not. Are you asking if it would have made sense to purchase travel insurance for everyone in your family, except the 6 month year old? Are you buying a seat for you infant or will she be a lap baby?

edited to add you may need to read the fine print. I don't know about your benefits if you need to cancel your trip due to sickness of traveler who's in your group but who doesn't purchase insurance.
