We ate there so many times when we lived there, Brenda! It is one of our all-time favorites. Unfortunately they don't serve lunch anymore! :sad2: We also debated about staying there but there was no room at the Inn. ;)

If you guys ever go back, there are a couple more places that we loved. We are going to check them out to see if they are as good as we remember! I will let you know.

Is the springhouse still there? Or am I thinking of the Dobbin House Tavern? Whatever it's called, it was one of our favorite places to have lunch. And Jay still talks about the Brunswick stew he had at Farnsworth ... :thumbsup2

I know. APs are going up $20.

We called it last night, didn't we? Honestly, don't these corporate schmoes know that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing while expecting a completely different outcome? :lmao:

We haven't been back since 1981!! It will be interesting to see how much it has grown. We owned 5 acres of land over near Ski Liberty that was in the middle of nowhere then. I bet it is all built up now.

We always liked the Farnsworth House better than the Dobbin House. And there is an Inn in Fairfield tha is just as charming with the same kind of menu. It is a lovely place to visit and to live.

It astounds me that people will now be paying $79 for a one day ticket. Pick your park, because you only get one at that price! :sad2:

I need to go to sleep. I know I will wake up at 5:30 or so anyway. And Kristin is going to the Paul McCartney concert tomorrow night in DC so I know I won't sleep well until she is home. I hear the man played 36 songs in NY! She may never come home! But she is so excited it makes me grin. :teeth:

It's definitely been victim to some sprawl, but I think the town and the battlefield preservation societies have done an admirable job trying to keep the area as "safe" as they can. It's a lovely place and so awe-inspiring ... I get chills every time we walk the battlefield.

I'd be so up for a tasting next weekend. I'm not 100% sure what my schedule is, Friday night would probably be the best for me, I think Saturday night I'm busy, Sunday no idea what I'm doing, I may have to work, and I don't think my boss would go for "I'm doing a wine tasting with my friends online," as an excuse to call out, lol.

Now I just need to hope that the local liquor store has whatever wine we pick. Stupid PA not selling alcohol in grocery stores.

Where in PA?? I am originally from Punxsutawney and have lived in Gettysburg and the Pittsburgh area. Sister is in Allentown, BIL in Williamsport.

I think we are finally going to use our last gift certificate from Christmas and have dinner at a Stinktown sushi joint called Wasabi. They are supposed to have some of the best sushi in town ... of course, we're talking Stinktown, so take that with a grain of salt, still .... we're game for giving it a try since our GC is for $50.

$50 can buy many sushi. :lmao:

I'll be sure to take pictues and post a review on the blog ... :thumbsup2

Sounds like you will put it to good use. Have fun!!

I'm wondering, why do you call it Stinktown?? I assume you are speaking of St. Louis?

I have some very nice memories of St. Louis, went to Washington U. for my freshman and sophomore years. I met my DH there, he was a senior when I was a freshman and we met because we lived on the same dorm floor:scared1:.

Now, this was back in the Stone age:rotfl: I was getting my car fixed and was reading a Time Magazine article about the new trend of co-ed dorms. Only two schools at that time did it and Wash U. was 1 of them. When I signed up, it was co-ed every other floor guys, every other girls. But, it turned out every other room:scared1: The article discussed how everyone treated each other as brother and sister, yah right:lmao:. I remember telling my parents about it and they said they trusted me:rolleyes1. School started the next week, not much we could do. I met my DH the second day of school, and the rest, as they say, was history. That was back in 1972.

Well, it's partly a joke ... there is a Simpsons' episode where they leave Springfield for Capital City and as they're driving away Homer yells out his window, "So long Stinktown!!"

That's become our signature phrase whenever we leave St. Louis for a vacation.

The other reason we call it that is because certain areas, many of which we have to drive through on our way back and forth to work, are downright stinky. Crossing the Missouri River in certain weather lends a really thick, mucky, dirty clay scent to the air; there is a foundry in St. Peters that we drive past every day on Highway 70 and I can't think of a polite word to describe the odors they belch into the air; and perhaps the creme de la creme ... Jay's office (also right off Highway 70 in Earth City) is located between a quarry and a landfill ... we like to call the landfill Mt. Trashmore.

So ... in conclusion ... St. Louis smells not appealing.

However ... overall it's not a bad city to live in. The cost-of-living isn't bad and the museums and zoo are free and we have some great local microbreweries and a pretty good baseball team. It's just that in terms of civic progress and forward-thinkingness, St. Louis is a backwater ... until the local leaders pull their heads from their collective butts this will always be a second tier city.

We've considered moving but we're really too lazy to do more than talk about it. :rotfl2:

I love the story of how you and your DH met here in St. Louis! That's so sweet! :lovestruc

Thanks for the explanation, but I do take exception about your baseball team:rolleyes1

GO CUBS!!!!!!:banana::banana:

Maybe I will just spend my Saturday at our Wegmans getting to know them all a bit better, then! Save myself the drive for now and see what I can buy closer to home.

I figure that most people need to go to work on Monday so that would make Saturday night the best night to choose. I think we have decided to drive home that evening instead of staying another night in Gettysburg. We will get to spend 6 hours there on Friday so I think we can save the money on the hotel costs there and come on home. So, maybe I will be back home in time to imbibe and describe with the rest of you. Catherine won't be here, though. Although I don't think we ought to feel too sorry for her.

I'm in for either Sat or Sun....can't do it Friday night as I will be busy preparing for the baby shower I am throwing on Sat mid-morning.

After a grueling 13 hour drive yesterday, we are back from our trip to Biltmore. I now know why my GPS took me across Virginia on the way down and not 95 to 40 through NC. I decided to go the latter route on the way home and it was a nightmare.

Chelle... on the way down I waved from a distance

Elin... we passed right by you on the way home with arms flailing wildly out the car window

Can you feel the love with that gridlock?

Brenda-Loved coming home to my pins-they look fabulous! I'm so excited to wear them for our trip!

Well, somewhere along the way today I posted my 23,000th post! Wow... That is:

2875 posts per year.
239.58 posts per month
7.87 posts per day

:teeth:

:woohoo: Congrats! I have a long way to go to catch you. I fear I never will, but I'll give it a good try just the same.

We don't find a lot at Trader Joe's here in Stinktown, although they have a great price on Gerolsteiner mineral water which we purchase by the case. The cheese selection pales in comparison to Whole Foods which has cut back and now pales in comparison to the Wine and Cheese Place which is our favorite place to shop.

We have a Trader Joe's up in Northern NJ, but it bites the big one. Just our luck we have a stinky one. They must be better elsewhere or folks wouldn't rave about them, but ours leaves a lot to be desired. I prefer a trip to Whole Foods for my needs too. Two buck chuck is something we don't buy, but I have a stock of it anyway-my aunt brings that stuff to our house every time she visits. I guess I know how highly she thinks of us. :rotfl: I use it for cooking. I'm sure taste varies on the variety, but she brings the Shiraz which I find icky.

Welcome back Allison! :goodvibes

Glad you liked the buttons ... don't they look fabulous?!! :thumbsup2:cool1:

I just finished the second of my two workouts for today ... had to earn the sushi that I want for dinner and have got to start taking off the poundage.

As for the wine-y chat next week ... let's shoot for 8PM CST next Saturday night. Will that work for most of us? Again ... I'm flexible. Looking forward to finding a tasty wine next weekend to share with everyone!

Well, you were waving at the wrong exit, Allison! :rotfl2:

Seriously... I wish you had told me your plan to come back that way. I would have screamed NO! out my window and you would have heard me in Asheville! The roads from just south of here up through your neck of the woods are horrendous on the weekends, but Fridays are just nasty. I am sorry. I hope it was a worthwhile trip for having to put up with that. :sad2:

My DD Kristin is getting ready to leave for the Paul McCartney concert. She is
