Anyone have it done - or your daughters? My daughter wants to have this done and I'm just wondering does it hurt and if so for how long?

I did it when I was 15.

It didn't feel good... But it wasn't bad. It was a sharp pain just long enough for me to take a deep breath and was done before I could use it to yell ouch. Then they put the ring in and the same thing. That was it.

It's sore for maybe a week or so. You just have to keep it clean and then after so many days you start to move the bar back and forth a little. It's really not bad, but obviously anytime you put a needle through your body it's going to hurt a bit!

I had mine done when people were just starting to do this - I was 24 (that was in 1996).
It did hurt when it was done, and mine never felt good.
It was always red and had puss sometimes, but I suffered with it, because it was my reward for losing a lot of weight.
I think the sensitivity of this area is like people's ear lobes. Some people have problems and some people don't - it just depends on the individual.
I hope it works out well for your DD :-)

I had mine done in 1994 and it didn't hurt. A pinch when they put the needle through but that's it. The day after someone accidently bumped into me and that did cause a second of ouch but nothing lingering. Just make sure to follow all directions in keeping it clean so it doesn't get infected.

I had a terrible time with mine and would never do it again. That said, I seem to be the exception and most people don't have problems. Good luck! I hope she likes it!

I have mine done. I have had it for 20 years  It hurt for quite a while. Like others have said when clothes rubbed up against it.

DD17 got hers done a year ago on Black Friday - early Christmas gift.

The actual piercing - she said wasn't too bad. Depending on what jeans she wore, it could rub the site which would cause a dull ache. She did very well with the after care and cleaning. Hers actually healed faster than her friend that had gotten hers done 2 weeks earlier.

She would tell you, if your dd was asking for her cartilage, tell her to remember the worst pain she has ever had and mupltiple that by a 1000. She loves her cartilage piercing now, but I know that will never be done again. It hurt too much, both the actual procedure and after care.

I didn't consider it painful. I've had it for probably about 13 years and have never had any problems with it.

DD got hers done about 10 years ago. She is a wuss about those things and handled it fine.
However she let it go after a couple of years....same with the tongue piercing ;) Gone now :yay:

My daughter got hers done a few yrs back, surprisingly she said it didn't hurt, stung a bit - like a bug bite.... but not painful/agony..as for afterwards, not a drama, no infection, no redness, she kept up the cleaning with the solution they give you. she keeps it clean every day and in the 5 yrs she has had it, nothing has got caught on it. Wearing the right piece dependent on what you wear helps alot too...don't wear a jewellery piece with long dangly bits and then wear a jumper - basically you have to co-ordinate the jewellery with your wardrobe...lol...

She is really thin and it looks really nice on her.

My daughter is a real sook, doesn't like any sort of pain at all, if she can handle getting this done with no pain at all, then anyone can...lol

Best thing about a belly button piercing, if she gets it done and then in a few yrs, changes her mind, there won't be a hole for the world to see, as her clothes will cover it..not like others.

Don't let her do it! They look so stupid on everyone, good figure or not!

Sorry but it doesn't look stupid at all...each to their own

Its a good look on women of all ages, but you got to keep the stomach flat

I just had a regular bar with a jewel on the bottom. Nothing dangling. No circular ring.

I played basketball, soccer, horseback rode... Never had an issue.

:-/ that just sounds like something people who shouldn't have one say :-/

I had mine done back in the day. I had it about 3 years but let it go when I got pregnant. It wasn't too bad...and after wasn't too bad either. It was sore less than a week. I say as long as she doesn't have a needle phobia and is willing to take care of it, go for it!

My daughter has a needle phobia, she is terrified of them, screams blue murder a the thought of a needle. Won't even tell me she is ill due to fear of needing blood tests....BUT she asked If she could get her belly button pierced. I said yes, but never thought for a second she would do it....lol

This is how my dd is also. That's why I'm not 100% sure she is going to go thru with it - although she's had her ears and cartilage done so we'll see.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I was really surprised my daughter went through with it, apparently apparently the pain was different/better to getting a vaccination....don't ask me how....lol
