I looked on the Bell website but can not find a package similar to one I had last year. I had 20 texts and a few minutes of call time. Does anyone know if Bell still has something like this or do I have to pay $.75 per text :scared1:

It would be much less to get your phone unlocked on ebay. They will send you an unlock code with instructions to unlock your phone within a few hours and it is very simple and easy to do. You can often do it for $5.00 depending on the type of phone you have. When you cross the border go to an AT&T Corporate store to pickup a FREE sim card. Add $15.00 on the sim card for the week and sign up for the $2.00/day **on days used** which includes unlimited texting to Canada and within the US and unlimited nationwide US calling.

sjsjbrook - thank you.

I was just on a live chat with Bell and this is her note: since you will there for 9 days, I can best recommend to you 50 roaming minutes for $30 and 50 SMS sent for $15.

I think at 75cents a text incoming and outgoing I can just limit who I text. I'm not spending another $45 dollars and I'm not interested in unlocking my sim card. I can't get just the text message for $15, it has to be combined with roaming minutes.

Bell got rid of the 20$ text package :( It's grandfathered in on my bill, it's worth the $20 a month to keep my contract legal and to keep my phone on when I travel.

I realise some people will go through the effort of unlocking etc. but before you do, double check with your carrier if it voids your contract or whatever. I have a friend that did a jailbreak on her iphone and she wasn't able to have her warranty covered when her battery wasn't working properly.

Have you considered picking up a cheap Tracphone at Walmart, Target etc. The phone may not be fancy but for $50. you would get a lot. I would expect to only pay $20 for a phone and air time.

I have decided I do not need to communicate with anyone while away. Remember the good old days where people didn't feel the need to be connected 24/7, I'm going with that plan :rotfl2:

With the free wi fi in the resorts and now in both MK and Epcot, we've decided to do the same thing. Anyone who needs us can just send us an email. We'll still be able to use the phone in an emergency (since we're driving down), but I don't see the need to spend that much money for the few calls we might need to make.

We just returned, and with wifi in MK (and now Epcot) as well as the resorts, email worked just fine for us. We did get the $15 text package from Bell, and didn't need to combine it with any talk minutes. For calls, we bought a $5 CiCi calling card. This way, you can call from your resort room with no added charges to the room. The $5 card gave us 90 minutes of talk time to Canada.

So I'm curious, if I use WI FI, that doesn't use any roaming, right? I'd be able to surf without worrying about large data roaming charges as long as I am connected to WiFi?

Also, I inquired about this a month or so ago, I'm with bell too, and there was some US TEXT pkg for $40 or so, and it included unlimited text....My son is with Telus and I'm with Bell, but we both have iPhones and I need a way to keep in touch with him in the event we go our separate ways sometimes in the parks.

I'll be looking into this this week, as our trip is only 25 days away!

If you just want to use wi-fi, and don't want any inadvertant roaming charges, just adjust your settings to block data.

Thanks Minni Mum :) I've already got data roaming turned off :thumbsup2 I went to the BELL and TELUS stores yesterday. My son (Telus) gets the BEST deal// starts and stops when I want, it's $40 for unlimited text.
mine is with Bell $30 for 200 outgoing and unlimited incoming-- but it starts and stops with your bill cycle dates, so that's a bit weird. 9 days, I figure, 20 sent texts per day should be fine for me, as there will be 2 days I won't even need my phone (discovery cove, and MNSSHP/Cabana day)... I am not attached to my phone 24/7 like my kids! Actually, now that I think of it, I have an option for just paying a $50 fee for unlimited texts, then my 16 yo could keep in touch with his friends too.....but, I'd prefer to go with the cheaper $30 option, as I am sure we could just let him use wifi at the resort/ POLY, and MK/Epcot has free wifi now too......

So, thinking of that and seeing it in writing, I'll probably stick to the $30 / 200 sent texts, unlimited incoming. And take my chances finding wifi as needed.

Wish this was easier and a little more economical! Thankful I could find something that will work for us without having to purchase Walmart US phones, or break my phone, etc.... :p
