Bell servics tipping etiquette question

I know it's considered proper tipping etiquette to tip bell services when they deliver your bag (e.g., to your room).

But I've seen conflicting opinions about whether its proper etiquette to tip when you given them the bags.

Say, for example, I arrive at a Disney resort early (assume I have my bags with me) but my room is not yet ready. So I leave the bags with bell services. Do I tip when I drop them off?

If I drop the bags off in the lobby, I only tip when they deliver them.

Yes we do give them cash for the work that they do to help us enjoy our vacation faster . They are working for tips just like others that are there to service all of us . Thank-You works always as well .. Love helping people when we are at work and you know Disney employees help us as well .

When we (family of 4) arrive by car and they take our bags & give us a ticket (rooms not ready) we will tip, probably $2 a bag. If we park the car & bring our bags in ourselves & then proceed to check in & the room isn't ready, the front desk will get some one to pick up the bags & take them to their holding area, we usually will give that person $5. Hope that helps.

We tip anytime someone helps us with our bags, whether we are dropping them off or having them delivered. We also tip the ME driver if we stow our bags under the bus.

What I do for every vacation (Disney or otherwise) is to tip anybody who handles my bags...the ME driver if I have my bags with me, the valet at the front of the resort, luggage services (although not everyone tips at this point and that's ok I think), and the CM who delivers my bags, assuming I'm there to receive them!

Of course if I check my bags all the way through, nobody gets a tip because I don't get to my room until the parks close at night

I tip on both ends....when I give them my bags to store (or move) and then again when they deliver the bags to me. Usually about $1-2 per bag.

I have no idea how Disney works this but my husband works at a resort hotel. They are assigned a post for their shift and that is where they stay for that shift. When he is assigned out front he is the one who unloads from the car, tags and tickets it, and transfers it inside. This is his least favorite because it requires the most lifting(from the trunk of a car, harder than off the cart when delivered to the room), the most susceptible for weather hot/cold/wind etc., and the most likely to not be tipped. They do not pool tips so he gets annoyed when he unloads tons of stuff, coolers, cases of water, cases of beer, etc puts it on the cart and doesn't get a tip but the guy inside with air conditioning who takes it to the room gets a ten. Anyway, when we go on vacation we either handle our own stuff or tip anyone who does.

One thing I found awkward is when we were leaving I had two bags and was in the line for RAC. I had gotten the bags to the lobby by myself no problem and had them next to me in line and a guy kept pestering me to let him "move those up" for me (in a line with about 3-4 people in front of me.) I wanted to keep the bags by me and said "no thanks" several times but since he wouldn't leave me alone I finally agreed to it and then after he moved them a whole 6 feet he mentioned to me several times that he had "moved them up for me" and was clearly expecting a tip for that. I would have given him one just to make him go away, but I didn't have any cash handy as I wasn't expecting to tip anybody. The whole thing was so uncomfortable. Is it a faux pas to handle your own bags at a deluxe resort?

No. I asked my husband and he said he would rather have someone take care of their own bags than have him do it and then not give a tip. He would never bother anyone about it though. That guy was rude.

If one person unloads and passes off to another who will then deliver it to the room $5-10 each is enough for a regular amount of stuff. Five people handling is excessive, a few dollars each should do in that case. However, if the same person unloads your car, loads the cart and then brings it to your room then $10-20 depending on the amount of stuff is good.

The 5 people weren't all Bell services. There was a host type person who was very helpful making sure our bags were handled, then later brought to our room with our Garden Grocer order, answered a bunch of questions escorted us to the front desk and then arranged a cart ride to our room, basically made sure our check-in was very pleasant. I offered a tip and he declined. There was 3 or 4 people who handled our bags though.

I tip $10 to the person who unloads the car (works out to approx $1 per bag/item) and another $10 to the person who delivers it to the room. That's for a 10 day trip. If I have fewer bags (like for a weekend) I'll tip about $1 per bag to each, but never less than $5. My bags are HEAVY.

I tip $10 or so to the car unloader and then also to the person who brings them to the room. BUT then I do it again when we check out. Since we do split stays, we do it twice. It adds up for sure.
