I'm with Bell Mobility. I only use my cell phone for emergencies, and have a $10.00 /month plan that I'm happy with. Now, I learn that bell is phasing out the service for flip phones and want us all to upgrade to a smart phone. If I have to do that, I'll likely switch to Telus or another service provider, simply because I don't care too much for Bell Mobility customer service. Bell does have more towers for better coverage, but many service providers use bell's towers anyway, so I don't think that is too much of a worry. I'm also reasoning that all the service providers might be the same when it comes to customer service. Is one better than another?

I find all the big companies the same. Have you thought of switching to a pay as you go since you don't use it much? I know Rogers even has an annual one that is $120/yr

We have had cells with Bell, Virgin, Koodo and Telus over the years. Telus, by far, has had the best customer service of them all (and outshines the others by a long shot). I have yet to have had an issue, concern or problem not be resolved by a Telus representative quickly and to my satisfaction.

Virgin was an absolute disaster (as far as Customer Care is concerned) and I will never, EVER give them another dime of my hard earned money. Dealing with them when my father passed away (and his cell services needed to be terminated) was the worst customer service experience of my life. I would revert to sending smoke signals before I'd ever have a phone through them again.

I have Rogers and currently they have this plan:
UNLIMITED Evening and Weekend Local Calling + UNLIMITED Texting for $120.00

I LOVE it, all i need and if i ever want to add any more talk time i can just toss 25.00 at my account and it will use it when needed. I bought my phone at Best Buy for i *think* 70.00 last summer and it was ready to go. It can be smart if you want but i never pay for data so just works as a regular phone.

As far as customer service? I've had a few problems (chalk it up to user stupidity AKA mom, you're old) and they've all be solved easily thru their on-line chat.

It's a bit tricky to find this offer on their page and if you go into a store or kiosk they will try to upgrade you to something bigger and more annoying -- don't! If you need help, send me a PM and i'll do my best

I used to have a home land line with Bell and an old flip phone (pay as you go) with Petro Canada.
I realized no one was calling or using our home phone in months, so I cancelled and went with Wind Mobile. I pay $39.00 a month and have unlimited talk/data and texting, which is less than I was paying Bell.
It's been a year and so far I'm happy.

I have a prepaid plan with Telus. I load my account with money. I have a text add-on that I am charged $5/mo for 250 texts(Canada wide). This monthly charge keeps the account active so I don't have to load more money it just draws down on my balance. Phone calls are $.15/min local. My kids like to text to communicate so this works well for me. I think I made/received 3 phone calls over the last 3 months so its pretty much emergency only. I have the option of adding on data as well but I don't use it so I haven't. If you do go with Telus make sure they turn data off at their end because although I had it turned off on my phone I was incurring data charges (small amounts, pennies really). I finally called about it and they turned it off at source and I haven't had an issue since.

We have been with Telus for three years after four or five years with Virgin. I completely agree with Gina that without question Telus has hands down had the best service and Virgin was pretty awful.
We love Telus and unless it becomes cost prohibitive, we will stick with them.

We've done them all...and are pretty happy with Rogers but mostly we love the 'roam like home' add on!
It's fabulous and we've used just about everywhere so far !

My hubby and I are both with Wind and our bill is HALF of what we were paying Bell for MORE coverage. I have unlimited talk/text/data in Canada, my hubby's plan is slightly different, he has unlimited talk/text/data all over North America (so we use his phone when we travel). For both phones we pay about $82 a month total. When we left Bell we were paying $150 month and that didn't include anything for the US.

Over the years I've been with all the big ones - Bell, Telus and Rogers. Bell was the best for customer service etc and Rogers was by far the worst.

How do you find coverage and service? I have heard there can be pockets in places where wind has no service?

Our daughter was with Wind for 24 hours before she switched .. while they promised our city is completely covered she couldn't use her phone in her HOUSE! had to go outside and down the street ???!!!??

We can't even consider wind. Our town was just recently covered but we travel into areas that aren't covered on a regular basis. 10 minutes from us and we are in a rural area where we would be roaming, no coverage for the cottage or half the drive. My husband would be in and out of coverage on his way to work as well. It would be a pain to constantly be checking to see if I was roaming. I'd love to save the money, but it isn't feasible.
You can see coverage maps on their website.

Wow that's expensive!! I have unlimited anytime Canada calling, unlimited texting, 1GB data, with Telus. $70

We've been with them for 2 years now and coverage is WAY better than it was two years ago. But we are in a large urban area - metro Vancouver has very good coverage. But when we went over to Vancouver Island my coverage was barely non existent and I had no cell phone for an entire weekend (which was fine because we were there for a wedding). Again that issue I had on Van isle was nearly two years ago. Now I hardly ever problems but I know some people further out that have many dropped calls with Wind.

I've been with Telus Mobility ever since my first cell phone. They're great customer service keeps me. I've heard horrors about Rodger & Bell customer service. One of my daughters will never use Bell again.
When it's time for a new contract, I call customer retention and get a better plan than what's advertised.

Same with when I need a US roaming plan.
Telus or Rodgers Roam like Home that was recently rolled out is horribly expensive and only handy if you're going across the border for a day or 2. paying $5/day for a trip of 25 days is crazy expensive.
I've also gotten cheaper rates for roaming packages. But have to be persistent. It took me 3 calls to get price I could live with for upcoming trip. Some agents are less willing to bend than others.

I think he meant $120.00/year
If Rodgers is giving that plan $120 for a year I'll switch tomorrow. That's $10/month. Somehow I doubt it's $120/year. But if it is, sign me up, lol

I am with Wind currently in a city of 400,000 or so. Data service is terrible, like almost to the point its not worth having data. On an unlimited plan last month I was only able to use 0.57 GB! I have called several times, it is not uncommon for data to be less than 1mb/s.... just terrible. In Toronto its fine, its not stellar, but it is decent.

I mainly keep wind around because I travel to the states a lot and for that wind cannot be beat, north america wide calling, texting, and data. Honestly, if Telus had even the most remote semblance of a US data plan I would switch back in a heart beat

switched over years ago to Koodo. They are the sister company to Telus, and use all their lines, so no issues. I find there plans better, give you more and if you are ok doing adjustment yourself all is good online. I just have talk and text and it s $25/month. My wife has 1gb data unlimited text and 800mins talk, free after 5 and weekends for $40/month. Now going on my 4th year with them, no issues.

Yup *she* meant for a YEAR ... honest it is ... i can give you a link but not sure if it's "legal" here?? It's only for unlimited texting and free local calls evenings and weekends though, no data but i only use it for those 2 things anyway so it's perfect for me.
