The way it's shaping up, my dad will need to drop us off at Universal so that we aren't holding the rental car hostage. Is there a place he can drop us off so that we don't have to pay for parking?

Yes...just follow the signs for "Guest Drop-Off"...it's over near the bus/taxi area.

Its fairly efficient. We did the same thing a few years back. It is a cul-de-sac area that brings you up the walkway half way between the parking garage and the security area.

When you are picked up, have cell phone contact and tell the driver to keep circling slowly and you should have no problem on the way out.
