Hi there,
We did this last New Years day. You get to touch a small shark, and yes you get to pet a penguin, and take pictures of each person petting him. We had Fred, which was actually a female. This was my girls Xmas present while we were in Florida, and they loved it. We went to the polar bear exhibit, and penguins, sharks, went behind the scenes, where they show you the rescued dolphins, turtles, and so on so you can see how they are rehabilitating them. Very neat experience. Do it, you won't regret, gives you a new insight.

I haven't gotten to post about my trip last week yet since I returned home for a day and then left again for a weekend away but I did this tour on Wednesday, 11/19. They usually have a 10:30am and 12pm option I believe. I picked the noon one and was the only one on the tour! So I had my own personal tour guide, lol. We went to the behind the scenes rescue area and saw manatees, dolphins, turtles, birds, the rescue boat from the show, stretchers they transport the animals in, etc and more. We also went behind the scenes in the shark exhibit and got to touch the small sharks and hear about the exhibit. From there we went to the penguin area (not Antarctica- a separate area where they keep other penguins) and got to go inside and see a colony of penguins and then the trainer sat down and put one on her lap and we got to pet his back. It was really cool.

Did you feed the dolphins and sea lions as well? What do they do for lunch? Where is the reserved seating for the shows? Thinking about doing it with my 8 year old daughter in January.

The Behind the Scenes Tour doesn't include dolphins, or sea lions, or lunch, or reserved seating - lol.

There is a separate dolphin tour, and a sea lion tour, and for certain days you can purchase a preferred seating pass. But none of those are included in the Behind the Scenes Tour.
