My mum and I are doing the Penguin tour :cheer2: there isnt much information on the website so can anyone tell me what happens? Do we need to bring anything or wear anything specific?

Thanks!

It is a 45-minute tour where you get to go behind the scenes of Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. An aviculturist (takes care of the birds in the park) will lead you on most of the tour and show you what it's like to care for the penguins. Then, the highlight of the tour is getting to meet a penguin in the Antarctica area. It is 32 degrees (Fahrenheit) in the habitat, so I would be prepared for that.

Just bring your reservation confirmation with you and check in at the Information & Reservations Counter at least 30 minutes before your tour, so you know where to check in/meet your tour guide. I would do this when you arrive at the park for the day, as that counter is near the entrance of the park.

Oh, and definitely bring your camera, too!

Hope you have a great time! :)

Have fun!!! Its a great tour and if you are a penguin lover its even better. One of my favorite tours.

Do you find it worth the money? How interesting is it for young children? My son will be 8, and is an absolute bird fanatic, he really enjoys penguins, so I'm thinking of doing this. We have a 5 year old DD with Aspergers who loves to do what her big brother is doing, but I'm wondering if it will hold her attention?

I want to say it would be more interesting for older children and up. During most of the tour, an aviculturist (one who takes care of birds) leads you through a behind-the-scenes area of Antarctica and talks about what goes into caring for the penguins. I thought it was very interesting, but I honestly don't know if it would catch a young child's attention.

The part where you get to meet a penguin, though, is quite exciting and would be interesting for just about everyone. :)

Another tour where you can meet/touch/get a picture with a penguin is on the Behind the Scenes tour. That one may be more interesting to younger children, as you get to visit multiple behind the scenes areas (and even touch a shark, in fact).
