Behavior Challenge Thread

Funny you should mention the sibling issue. My daughter is known in every school she goes to (we've moved a lot and she has been in a new school every couple of years:sad2: ) as the kid that is nice to "the little guy". She is popular-for the 3rd grade crowd- but she isn't afraid to defend or intervene. I think she has become the Mediator in her class.

She's also the one the teachers assign the new students to. It's funny because she was talking about a new kid in class that the other students didn't like. She said, "I think he's kind of autistic. He acts like my 'bother' but I don't think he can help it. He's nice other than that". Some kids were teasing another boy, so the teacher said, "Go sit with (DD) because she'll make sure you're OK". DD was telling me this, so I think she gets a kick out of being held in high esteem by peers and adults.

She's very wise for her age. I know her brother embarrasses her, but she also likes the fact that he doesn't play with "boy' toys and try to bully her like most boys do. I used to feel bad for her having to help him, but it makes them also conspire against me instead of each other, which is how they build a strong adult bond (as opposed to fighting each other and hating each other as adults).:cool2:

So has everyone been doing pretty well or is everyone insanely busy?

Becky - Hope you are healing and getting some rest.

DS was a leprechaun on Saturday. We went to the parade. He wasn't convinced a bow tie was okay until he saw the "real" leprechaun in the parade wearing one.

Happy St. Patrick's Day All!!

Insanely busy, but wondering if everyone is OK, like you as well C & G's Mama. Are things well in the old homestead? How's the aquatic activity? Still bubble free? I worked all weekend at the Disney Store and a few hours tonight. Disney on Ice was in town. I wish we'd have Disney on Grass, Disney on Concrete, Disney on Water, etc. We were super busy.

My kids are OK. Trying to find a trumpet teacher for DS. No luck so far. Expecting an Angel to come along any time now:rolleyes1 .

Becky, Mechurchlady, you OK? I'm cravin' some Dolewhips. June is too far away.

HI all! It's been busy here too!
My older son didn't make the band w/ his trumpet. :-( I think *I* am more uspet by it. (I used to play myself... even came *thiiiiiss* close to a professional career. I try very hard not to expect too much from my son, but I still get a little sad that he doesn't seem to love it like I did.) I've got the oppurtunity to enroll my younger son into the Challenger division of Little League.

Tomorrow is his next swim lesson. We're going to try Kids Night Out in 2 weeks. Like you all much other stuff going on.
DDM: If you move to WNY there are lots of good trumpet teachers in Rochester:goodvibes (We have the Eastman School of Music here so we are fortunate to have a lot of good music programs available to the community)In all seriousness, good luck with finding someone.

Off to get my Corned Beef, Cabbage and Potatoes ready for the Crock Pot.

Have a good day all.

I'm here. Doing all right and keeping busy.

I dug out our summer clothes yesterday, and they were in Justin's closet so now his room is a total mess. It got up to over 70 yesterday and about half the kids at school wore shorts, so I thought I should dig our summer stuff out, today is supposed to be even warmer. Both kids have grown a whole lot though, so it will be tricky. Summer is so much easier, though, shorts have elastic and we like that.

Becky, I love Summer and I especially love elastic waistband shorts, but I don't love the fact that my son seems to melt into a whining pile of goo when the temperature gets over about 80. And then there are the bugs. We are talking about a kid who was sitting eating his lunch in my truck while we were at the barn last year and I hear him shrieking and run to the truck. He's thrown up all over him self and is crying hysterically. Why? Because there is a fly-ordinary house fly- in the cab of my truck. Good times, good times.

Brightsy, wanna come teach my kid to play the trumpet? I even emailed the head of the music department at U of KY. (My first line---"At the risk of sounding like I'm calling the fire department to help me blow out a match..."). No luck there. The Brass Department head is on sabbatical and the Percussion Department head apparently can't walk in the hall way and find a student bulletin board.:rotfl2: Feel free to make pin/ drum jokes all day long. I did.

DH is so happy. DS watched basketball with him a lot this weekend. Games are still totally boring, but he was glued to the set in case they panned the camera over to show the Pep Band. :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

Try a couple of your local high schools. Some of the kids there are really talented. I used to give flute lessons to some younger kids when I was in high school.

We have a major problem with bugs here, too. Total freak-out. I do remember one specific time when I was pulled over on the side of the road with all the car doors open trying to convince a fruitfly/gnat to leave our car please, while DS screamed his head off.

Now, cartoon bugs are fine. We're okay with them. Even the Bugs Life 3-D we were okay. In real life, not so good.

If was I close enough to get your place I'd surely give your kid lessons. I'm wayyy out of practice but I can surely get a beginner to nail down the basics and work on intermediate stuff...

Everything online is slipping away. One person drove me from disabilities board because he followed me and now made me feel worthless and stupid here. I tried on Disneyland board but this woman nitpicked my typos and made me feel worthless. I was accused of cheating when I did not cheat and it is my beloved site.

Worst is taht I have to control my SID because mom is on full blown hypersensitivity. I used to quickly check a bunch of sites and boards and play games but gaev up on life and hurt so much inside and ourside that I am not doing anything any more but just piddling around with stuff and not doing stuff at other sites.

I miss you all but he is right that I do not know anything aout WDW and should shut up and not post here even though I knwo I am good enough andSue corrects me. part of my neurovariation is low self esteem and feeling like I am the stupidest idiot in the world. it is neurovariations and the person knows about me and constantly picked on me. i cannot help taht i have neurovariations that require ego stroking, apat on the back and rewards. i cannot help that i need encouragement and shut down when people are mean.

i lvoe you all and thank you for the memories and will try to come back but i am so shut down right now and not able to do much. I have sen suicidal tendencies in my attitude toward food and nto caring if i get fatter and die, i am so tired and done gave up. tired of rfighting bad people on line, tired of bullies on line, tired of the online enemies, tired of dealing with mom.

hugs and dole whips and you all are great moms and dads
keep up the posting of them tiny miracles and steps
hugs

Laurie, I know you're very independent, but I'm worried about you. You have a lot on your plate with taking care of your mom. It sounds like you could really use some help. I"m sorry if someone's already asked, but is there respite care in your area? Or is there a Social Services department in your city who you could call?

Even if it's just for a few hours...is there any resources you can call on? Or could you leave the house for a few hours, just to go to the library, or shopping, or for a walk? I care about you a lot. You're always kind to everyone on these boards.

I understand if you need a break from the boards, but I pray you can get a break in your daily routine too. Please check back in with us when you get a chance. You're funny and you're a member of our family here.

Laurie,
I know you need to work with your stuff. But please know you are not alone. I now we are not in California. But we are real people that care about you. Unfortunately as we all know there are people that pick on others to feel better about themselve. It stinks. It is not you. If it wasn't you they were picking on it would be me or my kid or someone else. You ARE worthy. Please don't let some bullies (and that's what they are) keep you away from us.

You are always on my prayer list. And as another poster suggested, is there anything social services can do to help you and your mom in the form of respite care? You have taken on a big load.

God Bless You and please let us know how you are.

Ann

am off for dinner

no respite care

Calvin would help but he did the hall instead of kitchen

Mom told me to never mind about dinner just because I am taking my salad dressing with me. this is standard so she should not have said that.

I have mental quirks so bullies hurt me big time. I should ignore them but some bullies do not stop and with me I shut down. i am here typing in tears and tired to make mom pay for her fit. I cannot help that bullies hurt me and they know it and they just do nto get it.

love you all and hugs and chocolates and coffee for becky

someday it will be better but right nwo shut down tight

hugs

Hey Mechurchlady, I want to tell you that we here on this thread are not like those other jerks out there, so keep checking in with us and tell us how you are. We really value your opinion and you have been very helpful for all of us. SO no matter what anyone in other places says, you are and will be always welcome here.

See, I'm not the only one that thinks you need to think about yourself more and try to get some help with your mom. We need you around to tell us about DLR. And when you are able, you can go to WDW and it will all be OK. It is impossible for anyone to know everything about any place, especially about WDW, so I think you should keep in mind that your knowledge of WDW would naturally be vastly different than someone else's. And we all know the world needs lots of different inputs to make it make sense sometimes.

And since you are so knowledgeable and make some of these talks we have make more sense, then you need to realize that your love for Disney is what brought you here and that is the ultimate thing that we all have in common- we are nice people that help each other and would most likely end up chatting away if we were stuck in line or on a resort bus, in FL or CA.

Thus, I conclude my pep talk. :grouphug: :sad1:

Thanks for the tips on trumpet lessons. I'd happily drive from KY to FL for lessons, Brightsy. Gas is still cheap and I like to drive. Do you think my DH would mind? :rotfl2:

Apparently DS's 1st grade teacher read the whole class a book on brass instruments today. DS must be yammering on and on, so teacher was trying to give kids a clue as to what he's talking about. Bless that woman.:worship:

Laurie,

This post is to send you my magic cloak; it is reversible. The pink and purple side wards off sneers, dirty looks, and harsh words. The shiny blue side makes you invisible for when you need to rest or hide. Please wear it as often as needed, as I have always enjoyed the unique perspective if your posts.

Tiggerish, Becky and I are making a clothing line for ASD and SID people. Can we borrow the pattern for your cloak and sell them to all the people who need them? Or maybe do a "free gift with purchase". :thumbsup2

I bet people would come from all over to get our merchandise...And Mechurchlady can be the model and show us how gorgeous she is when we unveil it at our Grand Opening of the Autism Ride at WDW (her idea). :yay:

You are more than welcome to add the magic cloak to your clothing line. Did I mention that it is tagless and one size does fit all - - it fits as tight or loose as the wearer needs it to be.

Okay, people, I am working my way thru the Lord Of The Rings books right now and this magical size-adjusting cloak thing has some potential. I personally would prefer a tiara, but that's just me. ;) Well, hmm, together, as an outfit, a cape and a tiara, that works pretty well. A bit overdressed for PTA, but someone has to be the trendsetter.

ChurchLady, you are really good at finding links to things. You can always find a link to an answer, if someone is asking a question. That's a very handy skill. And I stink at it.

And you serve a nice cup 'o coffee. :surfweb:

I am irritated right now because I got bit by the coupon bug. And we just bought a new printer about a month ago, and it wasn't being cooperative. Then I got that fixed and printed out some coupons. Then the ink ran out. Then I discovered :headache: that this printer, there aren't any little holes in the ink cartridges so that I can refill them myself. Which is what I always have done before, because DS prints stuff like crazy, but it's "junk" like 50 pages of game cheats. I am fully peeved. If I woulda known, I wouldn't have bought this printer in the first place, but there isn't any way to tell until it's too late.

hugs and dole whips and I ma trying to come back.
I ate lara bars with chocolate in them but not real chcolate, cherry muffin, and a bag of plain chips. This is a bad funk and I just cannot get out of it.

thanks for caring and listening

hugs
laurie
