Begun, the panic-buying has ... again.

I live in Wisconsin and I have never seen the cold/flu section at Target so decimated. I needed to buy Sudafed and Sudafed PE for my ongoing post-Covid tinnitus and I could only buy the "good stuff" that I had to show my ID for. Sudafed PE was wiped out. I did find it, at all places, my local grocery store.

No problems in my part of Maryland that I’ve seen so far. People going crazy for in home Covid tests. I was able to get some today and I feel like I won the lottery.
I had a walmart shop. Put the order in on Friday for a pickup on Sunday. On Friday , they had covid test in stock. I put three in my cart. Never ,ever , expecting to get them. Come Sunday, I didn't get bread I wanted, but did get the tests. Gave two packs to DS.

Well, the Sunday after Christmas the meat counter was cleaned out. But it was back to normal by Tuesday. I have to admit after word of the great cream cheese shortage hit, I started checking. Walmart and our local grocery story both were fully stocked on cream cheese, Kraft and store brand, flavored, in tubs, blocks, but I do shop at 7 am Sunday morning.
But no shortage of anything here that I have observed.

I was in Safeway today (Alexandria, VA) and the shelves had a lot of empty space, but there were stockers everywhere refilling them. I suspect it was just the snowstorm that blocked shipments from coming in.

Okay just got back from the store (Wegman's) after the storm has cleared and trucks have had a chance to get back to the stores. Unfortunately, they are calling for 2-4 inches of snow here tonight/tomorrow, so the store was in full swing snow-panic mode. They were fully stocked on fresh salmon and most fresh food, but in was getting bare. The entire chicken aisle was empty and I just think they have not gotten a shipment in. I got the last 1/2 gallon of milk that I but there was plenty of other types. People leaving the grocery store with shovels and toilet paper. Always seems odd to me.

This time around it's different. Lots of staffing are currently out on + leave. So frieght is remaining in the backrooms because there isn't enough staffing to stock it. Plus factor in the first of the month shopping that's a hit on inventory too. Give it a week or 2 and things will be back.

the local Harris Teeter has a notice on their website that some items might not be available.

of course we're just a few miles north of the I-95 mess and more snow arrives tonight.

I noticed a similar sign at Rite Aid. It said "we apologize for out of stock items."

We've had supply issues in NE FL for the last 20 months. If it's not one thing, it's another. For awhile, it was TP and cleaners; then frozen veggies and meals, meats and canned goods; now it's dairy, fresh veggies/fruit, and the deli. Canned cat food (especially Friskies brand) has been in short supply; I've taken to buying multiple 24 (or bigger) packs when I come across them, on Chewy or at the grocery store.

I had ordered the last of what they had in stock for a certain variety pack on Tuesday..just spotted that it was in stock so ordered another 2 today, along with more treats. Gotta hit that free shipping mark somehow..lol..but, I paid $21.84 for it on Tuesday and today the price was $23.49. And I just checked and its now out of stock again. But they have assured me that if it said in stock when it was ordered, then it has been counted out of the inventory and I will get my orders.

Yes I have seen explanations stating it is supply related and weather is part of that. The only areas I noticed were the chicken section and fresh fish. Others in other parts of the state had produce issues.

Here is the chicken section yesterday (Wednesday):3293462C-D5E6-4065-9807-B37B92C69036.jpeg

Errbody is sick right now (our family included :( ). Most people at my work are working from home cuz we're all sick, and the same goes for my husband's work. You can't find tests, either, so it's anyone's guess if it's that or not, ha. I feel like we live in a similar area, OP, cuz we also got a lil dusting of snow today.

My husband needed some more cough drops and only the nasty nasty ones were left. Much suffering for him ahead :P

Chicken Breasts were just about gone when I did the food shopping two weeks ago. All that was left were some bags of breasts in individual wrappers, and tenders. I grabbed two of the bags, not wanting to deprive someone else. There were plenty of legs and thighs, though. I'm in NJ.

There have been random shortages for the past two years. First it was TP and cleaning wipes. Then came the flour and yeast. Literally every time I go to the store SOMETHING seems to be out of stock. I no longer believe it is horders (like with the TP) it just seems to be the new normal.

My mom noticed that much of the dairy section where she shops was empty the other day. She asked a clerk what was going on. He said they had stock in the back but hadn't put it out yet. There were very short-staffed and every employee was working as either a cashier or a bagger. No one had been available that day to restock the shelves.
