Hi everyone! I'm looking for beginning chapter books to bring with us on our Disney World trip. We have a 9yo who's not a strong reader and a 7yo who is barely beginning chapter books. The 9yo is currently enjoying "Who Was Walt Disney?" but that's about as advanced as she gets right now for reading. I've heard of the Kingdom Keepers books, but I think those might be too scary for her. We'll be visiting all the parks, so maybe some books regarding the countries in Epcot or the animals in Animal Kingdom will be good. I know there are some Disney Fairies books, but I don't know how well those are written?

Any advice is appreciated!

My DD8 loves the Princess Mystery series. Very age appropriate and just the right length for beginning chapter book readers. I agree that KK is too advanced for this age group. They remind of "Lost" where you end up with more questions than you started:rotfl:

This is one of the books my DD has and loves it. http://www.amazon.com/Belle-Mysterious-Message-Princess-ebook/dp/B004RJROIQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1383140607&sr=1-1&keywords=disney+princess+mystery

My DD loves those too! :)

If you are driving, Kingdom Keepers might be a good choice to read out loud to everyone. It's always great to read books above their reading level and you could talk though the scary stuff. Also the official Disney Guild book for kids would be great for them to read together on the trip down. One year I read Tom Sawyer out loud and Swiss Family Robertson another trip. Maybe some of the Winnie the Pooh series books would be fun too.

How about the Mary Poppins books? Ther eare quite a few and well written. Bonus, its set in London so it will also tie into Epcot - UK. Other books that Disney used... The Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland / Through the Looking glass. I think that Alice in Wonderland & Mary Poppins may appeal to girls a bit more the Tom Sawyer.

My 7 year old daughter has also enjoyed the princess chapter books suggested by the previous posters. I would also recommend Disney's "The Never Girls" series.

If you are driving please take into consideration that reading while moving makes alot of people car

Some of the beginner chapter books my kids enjoyed -

Magic Treehouse
Magic Fairies (DS read them as well as DD)
Captain Underpants (Sigh - I hate these books. However - they were the first chapter books my DS would sit down and read. Low brow to be sure, and he is now past them thankfully, but they were the trigger to get him to start reading by choice.)

Diary of a Wimpy Kid series

My 9 y.o. has been reading them over and over for 2 years. My kids and I both loved the Judy Blume series that started with "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing".

How about the Puppy Place and/or Kitty Corner series by Ellen Miles? Those are pretty short while still being chapter books.:) (My sis and I still like them, actually.;))
