Beginners surfing beach in Dec ?

I have 3 kids (13 - 17) who spent several days taking surf lessons last summer in Huntington Beach CA. We are going to be at Aulani this December holiday break. We plan to rent surfboards for the kids to use, any advice on a good “beginners waves” surfing beach in December?

In December you will need to look at Waikiki for surfing. Winter is big surf for the North Shore and is not recommended for beginners or even intermediate level.

I was there in December, check out Kawela Bay and Kahana Bay for beginners, or Makapuu Beach if they're a little better. Waianae could be small or huge waves depending on the day.

Definitely avoid the rest of the north shore in winter. Everywhere I listed except Kawela Bay is popular with locals, so make sure the kids know the etiquette (wait in line, don't waste a good wave, don't crash in on someone else).
