We'll be going to WDW at the end of Oct. and I'm allergic to bees. I was wondering with all the flowers and sweet things at WDW, are there also alot of bees? I have an epi pen, but am hoping I won't have to use it.

Hi - I am also extremely allergic and carry a pen (or two). I have never had an issue at Disney but I do follow some common sense rules. I don't eat outside if I have an option to sit inside and I don't wear perfume to the parks. The people who I am with know how to use the epi-pen and I carry the benadryl rapid dissolve strips as a first defense before using the epi-pen.

I have been undergoing shots for seven years to de-sensitize me and I am up to full strength. The risk of me dropping dead is very low but that doesn't mean I won't have a bad reaction! I don't let it run my life or my trips to WDW!

Have a great time!

I'm not allergic, just deathly afraid. We went in spring (the park was dead! it was great!) and there were no bees. Disney must keep them out, or the bees are allergic to pixie dust.

I am allergic and terrified and I have never once seen a bee in WDW -- dont really know why, but I know I am always totally relaxed there and have even eaten outside, something I rarely do!

I am also allergic to bees and I live in Florida. In the WDW theme parks, I just make sure I don't sit outside near a lot of flowers. I've had the most encounters with bees at Downtown Disney. They have large pots of flowers everywhere and they are usually covered in bees. Not long ago, I sat down on a bench just across from Ghirardelli to eat a Mickey Bar. I was about half way through when a bee landed on my ice cream. Needless to say, it ended up in the trash very quickly.

If you are extremely allergic, do bring your epi pen just to be on the safe side and don't walk around with open food items. You should be okay.

I've seen a few bees over at the rose garden in Epcot. They were too busy tending to the roses to care about us.

We've never noticed a lot of bees at WDW. Certainly nothing more than you must have around your own home town.

There are bees at Disney World. There has to be (no pun intended) so the flowers can grow. Bees are the only things to pollinate the flowers.

Why you don't see very many bees at Disney World or anywhere else is there is a very serious bee shortage. No one knows why but it is a big concern in nature. Bees pollinate. No bees, no flowers, no honey.

I know people are allergic to and afraid of bees. But, please don't kill one. Every single one is vital to nature right now.

We live in Florida and spend a lot of time in the parks. My husband is allergic and I'm scared to death of bees and we've never had a problem.

While we are on the subject, remember there are many types of venom. So for those of you who are allergic it's a good idea to be tested to see which ones you have reactions to. Also remember that wasp's are different then bees. Yellow jackets are wasp's not bees and white faced hornets are yellow jackets (I know it gets confusing). In most cases, bees/wasps do not attack humans. They defend themselves and the hive, so don't swat at them. Hornets get a bad rap, but that's because they can sting more than one time. Bees can only sting once and then they die.

There are bees and wasps at Disney. As the PP said, we need all types of bees for pollination so don't try to kill them. I can understand why people are afraid of them (especially if you are allergic) but to throw away a perfectly good Mickey Bar!! Really Feralpeg was that necessary? :sad1:
