Beer mugs and other drinky drinky tips

We're leaving Friday for our first cruise in 6 years. Please refresh my memory, are these the re-usable beer mugs we can pack and bring back on board?
Technically, officially, the mugs are supposed to be for length-of-sailing, not lifetime. In practice, the bartenders always honor them as if they're lifetime.

Alaska question... Should I expect anything different in terms of drink of the day, or is it going to be the typically fruity/tropical drinks they serve on Caribbean sailings?

Ooo, Second that motion. Wondering if they do something similar for our Sailing out of Copenhagen this august.

Are the beer mugs only fillable at the bars or can I use it in the MDR too?
Both, although your assistant server may not be familiar with the various draft beer options that are available in the different dining rooms, so be patient if they have to go check for you.

Thank you Ralph&Pam! I think I will surprise my husband with this for our upcoming cruise.

In the MDR you'll want to ask for specific beers. Most of the bars onboard have the same "core offerings," but each bar has 1 or 2 beers that are unique to it. Longboards at the pools bars, Guinness at the Irish pubs, etc. I would recommend getting the list from each and then creating a master list so you know what you can ask for. They'll send someone to get it for you if they can!

Tab? How does one keep a tab when everything is charged to the room?
As The poster mentioned above, they wont ask you for your room info with every drink you buy so just make sure to pay for everything you bought during happy hour before happy hour is over.

Ah. Can you order something before happy hour starts and still get happy hour prices as long as I pay before it ends?

Hmmm. Good question, but I'd anticipate the answer is no - those deals are "time bound" in the computer so it would probably only work on transactions that took place during that allotted time. That said, if you find that isn't the case, by all means let us know! :-D

Standard drinks except on Dawes Glacier day - they also had mulled wine and other goodies on carts around the decks. I had one on Deck 4 and later on up top. This was from the first day:

Never been on a cruise so do they have a general store on the ship that sells over priced 6 packs, bottles of wine or bottles of liquor like the DVC resorts or are the bars the only option?

No, you can get 6 packs of water from the pool bars but I don’t think you can get a bottle of wine other than served in a restaurant

You can pre-purchase those things before you get on board (https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/gifts-and-amenities/), but once you are on board, I don’t believe they are available. Maybe on the day you go to Castaway Cay when they’re selling coolers (they might sell things to go in them)? Someone else will know.

No general store, and no liquor sales other than the bars and restaurants. However, you can purchase bottled wine in the dining rooms (including some multi-bottle packages that provide a discount compared to the regular price of a selected subset of the available wines). You can consume those in the dining room and also take any you have not consumed back to your stateroom for later consumption. In fact, you could take full bottles back to the stateroom if you wanted to. You can also purchase six packs of beer from the bars, with or without an insulated cooler bag (at extra cost). Finally, each adult passenger (21+ yo) can bring aboard two bottles of wine (750 ml max size) or a 6-pack of beer (12 oz size) at the departure port and each subsequent port of call.

We go again in November, but I'll try it purely for research purposes. When I worked in a restaurant the price always depended on when it was put into the system not when you paid. It seems silly to have to keep an eye on the time as I'm enjoying my drink(s). And it seems hypocritical to charge you based on order time for non HO prices but on closing of tab time for HO. But hey DCL is a for profit right.
