Agreed. It is amazing so many people feel that others can't possibly drink without getting wasted.

Maybe because of all the people I've seen puking in the bushes at Epcot during F&W. Or the guy in line with us at Test Track who got nasty, and was extremely drunk, when we wouldn't let his party of 10 cut in front of us to join him and his girlfriend. Some people really can't handle alcohol, believe it or not. I like having a drink as much as anyone and I like having a good time while I'm on vacation, but I'd hate to see morons staggering around MK with a beer in their hand. And I'm not going to argue, I'm entitled to an opinion, especially based on experience.

It would be easy enough to have alcohol without people getting wasted. Keep in with dinner only. Don't allow guests to carry it as they do in Epcot. Your post came across sounding like everyone drinks to get wasted, and that is not true.

I said nothing of the kind. I'm aware that most people can drink without becoming drunk. Your perception of my intention is incorrect.

MK is for everyone, Walt wanted everyone to enjoy his legacy. And considering everyone can get alcohol pretty much everywhere else on WDW property, I'm happy with MK to stay as it is. The BOG wine and beer offerings are a compromise for adults who are dining there for dinner.

While some people can handle their liquor, so many others can't.

I would never consider Magic Kingdom as being just for kids. We've never gone to WDW or DL with kids!

First it's getting wasted and then it's swilling. What if we just drink the beer while walking? Is that acceptable? Or is it automatically "swilling" when it's a beer?

Is that like it's ok if a family is sitting around reading books but if they are holding electronic devices it's automatically horrible? Lots of "eye of the beholder" stuff in alcohol threads.

I like the story of the diser who was carrying a drink she hadn't had a sip of yet, tripped, and was accused of being drunk. Eye of the beholder with a snap judgment.

I could easily spend a bunch of money at Poly, get on the monorail, and be drunk at MK. Not having alcohol sold there doesn't prevent drunks from being in MK.

Of course, the cost keeps even a lightweight like me from being even tipsy anywhere at WDW but my room with store-bought wine!

I enjoy a good drink (or 5), but I don't think there is a need for alcohol at the magic kingdom. You want a drink, head to one of the hotels on the monorail. Then head back after you quenched your thirst. 45 minutes max..

I think many of us go not want "a drink". What we would like is a glass of wine or a beer with our meal. I respect that there are those who disagree with us, but I do not respect that in order to make their point they insist we will all be keeling over dead drunk if restaurants offered a limited selection of alcoholic beverages with a meal.

I have no desire to leave the park for cocktails. I never have and I doubt that I ever will, it's not about getting "drinks". It's about adding a glass of wine with my dinner.

I don't care one way or the other. I don't drink. Alcohol isn't pleasant tasting to me, and I am always baffled how something that gross could enhance food in any way. If the park stays as-is, fine. If they offer alcohol elsewhere, fine too.

Walt had passed away before Magic Kingdom opened. Roy is the one who opened MK. And the powers that be kept it dry until 2012 when BOG opened.
The policy of not serving alcohol was already in place at Disneyland and that is what Walt intended for MK. The exception is Club 33 in Disneyland, Walt passed away before Club 33 was completed, but he had planned and designed everything before he passed. The private club was intended to be a place where he could entertain his guests, alcohol is served at Club 33, however Club 33 is not accessible to the general public.

I think all in all, it was a fair compromise that BOG offers beer and wine service at dinner.

I'm not surprised that they did this, on one hand the imagineers say - we should serve alcohol because it's more realistic, on the other hand the accountants say, yes it's good for the bottom line, those thinking about Walt's memory are saying - well Club 33 exists and serves caters to a small amount of guests...so in this case there was no down side. I think they just skirted the line.

We don't know what Walt would have done. He may have been adamant about prohibiting it at BOG because it is a public restaurant, he may have wanted a private club put in MK, who knows.

I do not "feel the need" to have a drink anywhere. If I did I would leave the park and get one. I said that I like a glass of wine with dinner. I said I would like it if that was offered in the TS restaurants. Your suggestion that if one "feels the need" for a drink one must go to BOG is kind of snippy.

The Magic Kingdom is one of a kind and special, with the Pixie dust and Magic that Walt created. His feeling were he wanted a family, alcohol free park and respecting his wished for the MK in California and WDW should respected. Before anyone says we don't know if he would have changed his mind is not logical as he made his feelings known over and over in print, video and verbally. There is not even a hind of him changing his mind.

If you really want a drink its a 10 minute walk to the CR and 15 Monorail ride to other resorts and a hundred places in WDW. There is no need to spread it in the MK. Disney seems to have a problem controlling it as Epcot has proven over and over. I was really pleased to see drinks were not extended to the SC and can only hope it never is.

IT's the walking around the park drinking, swilling, gulping , sipping--whatever you call it--that I would not like to see at the MK.

And if they served beer and wine other than at a bar or at the table, that is what you would wind up with just like Epcot.

It isn't logical to conclude that someone would definitely have the same mind set now as they had 40+ years ago. We simply don't know what Walt would think of drinking in the parks current day.
