Been feeling "off" - Not sure what to do

For about the past 4 weeks, I've had this feeling of just being "off". Not dizziness, but like my head is somewhat cloudy. I've been to my PCP, and he said it was probably stress or anxiety. Went to a neurologist, and she said I should take a sleep study (haven't done yet). Went to an allergist today, and he said I had a reaction to dust mites, have a deviated septum and have some fluid in my ear. I have an appointment with an ENT tomorrow. If they don't find anything, I'm really gonna start freaking out. I feel fine otherwise, but I just can't get this off feeling out of me.

Can anyone relate?

Did anyone test your thyroid levels? See an endocrinologist if PCP hasn't or won't do the tests

good luck! :goodvibes

Fluid in your ears and sinus trouble can totally cause what you are experiencing. Fluid behind your ears can cause a vaguely off balance sensation.

If I were you I'd give some behind the pharmacy counter old school Sudafed a try to dry things out if you feel sniffley.

Also, how has your diet been? If your sugar isn't being maintained well it could easily explain that feeling. Summer is coming, you on any new diets or taking any new supplements to get bathing suit ready?

Allergist put me on nasonex, so I'll see how that works. I have had some off and on pressure behind my eyes during the past few weeks. I suppose that could be sinuses.

If nothing comes out of tomorrow, I'll go to my PCP and ask him to check my thyroid.

I'm a hypochondriac, so naturally I'm kind of freaked out right about now.

It is probably the fluid in your ear. My youngest dd struggles with it constantly. It either gets to the point of being dizzy, "off", or sometimes she gets an ear infection. Probably caused by allergies.

Taking something to dry up the fluid is what you need.

The allergist said there was a little fluid in my ears. Truth be told, I was hoping he'd say there was a lot of fluid. At least then it would seem like the answer.

Well hypo, those are classic allergy/sinus issues. So put your fears to rest. Bad news is allergy sinus issues suck big time.

This yr. I had a new one on me. In fact it is bugging me now. The area UNDER my eye, swells up so bad I can see it in my line of vision. Never had that before.

Sinus issues can make you feel like crapola.

Even though he did all the allergy testing on me (that was fun)? Only thing I had a reaction to was dust mites. Not even pollen or grass.:confused3

Is there a reason you haven't done the sleep study? Undiagnosed sleep disorders will cause those symptoms and the thing is, if you have that you won't necessarily know it. I would definitely pursue this avenue, since you're ruling out stuff.

I honestly didn't think it would help. I know I snore. That's not to say, I didn't planon doing it. I am going to do it, but I kind of put it on the back burner until I got this issue resolved. I couldn't imagine sleep apnea would be causing this issue, especially since it just started about 4 weeks ago.

LOL - I wish that was all it was!

I figured.

The fluid in the ear sounds like it could be the issue with the dizzy feeling. The inner ear is a large part of balance.

Much like my law degree, my medical degree was issued by Google but I did find this. Does it sound like what you are experiencing?

Ever try allergy eye drops? I use Visine A every so often because I am VERY allergic to my cat and occasionally pet him and forget to wash before touching my eyes... forget about what I look like if my dog snuggles in my pillows. The swelling happens very quickly & the drops works very quickly too.

What kind of test was done? Sounds like you had the back scratch test and not the serum test. The back scratch test is only for allergies that are high/severe.

It absolutely can. Snoring can cause a form of sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation is cumulative--it is difficult to just "tank up" on the weekends. It is quite possible that you have a couple of things going on. Hormone imbalances can cause you to feel "off" and allergies, sinus infections, and inner ear stuff can too. But I still think if the neuro has recommended it you should get the sleep study. At the least, they might not find anything wrong. And at the worst, you may have sleep apnea or another sleep disorder, all of which can be treated.

I have severe sleep apnea. Getting a sleep study probably has given me a few more years of life. Sleep apnea has a lot of negative effects. I use CPAP religiously and now I sleep at night, I have energy during the day, I don't fall asleep all the time and I feel like myself. I had no idea that sleep apnea could make me feel so bad until I stopped feeling bad!:goodvibes

Yes I have for dry eyes.

You know you may be onto to something. Recently my dogs have been laying on my pillows. I am going to bet that is what is causing this.

Thanks because it is driving me nuts. I am allergic to pretty much everything but it is mildly. However put dogs + spring allergies together and it is a perfect storm.

I can't take allergy meds anymore which stinks. With premenopause I am so dry, I can't take any antihistimines.

Neh, that's not it. I don't feel dizzy. It feels as though there is pressure behind one of my eyes and that my head is sort of tilted. When I'm laying down, it's fine. In fact, usually when I walk it's OK. Mostly noticeable when I'm sitting down at work or just standing still.

Another thing I noticed was when I look out the window of my office (I'm on the 5th floor) and look down, that's been making me feel more unbalanced, and I've never had that issue before 4 weeks ago.

Did about 25 pricks on the back, then 6 needles in my arm.

Yea, that is just not an effective way to test for allergies that are mild.

With the back scratch test I was allergic to cockroaches. With the serum test I was allergic to pretty much everything. When you have about 50 mild allergies you are not going to feel well. Mine were debilitating. I did shots every week for 6 yrs.

If you want to know what you are really allergic too, you go have a serum test.
