Day 6 -Tuesday 16th August 2011- DHS
Today we had breakfast on the balcony in our room.
Matt decided to have some leftover cake, while Luke and I shared a bacon&egg sandwich.
We caught the bus to DHS, Matt and Luke were really looking forward to today as DHS is their favourite park. They were also looking forward to the revamped Star Tours ride, Star Tours The Adventures Continue.
After looking around and taking lots of pictures we went to watch the Indiana Jones stunt show. We had to wait a while for it to start, thankfully we had lots of iced water and a fan. I nearly had to use the spray fan on a couple sitting in front of us! They were in their 50's and were passionately kissing, for those that have sat in the stadium you know how close you are to each other. I just thought it was inappropriate with all the kids around
Next up was Star Tours
Geek alert....
Now although I dont like simulation rides, I did ride this. I felt it was a lot smoother than previous and we all enjoyed the new scenes.
Matt & Luke spent ages in the shop buying lots of Star Wars goodies.
I got bored, so I went off in search of this-
I had a small bite to test-it was delicious. I ate this over the day and it stayed moist and soft. It did have raisins but most of them were blended-some were whole though.
Finally they'd finished their Star Wars shopping, thankfully we can get it delivered to the hotel.
I know everyone always moans about the counter service at DHS but we love it. For us though, there is only one place-
We just got 2 meals again as Luke really wasnt eating on the holiday.
Pepperoni Pizza, salad, Mickey rice treat, Coke
Cheese & Tomoto Pizza, Salad, Mickey rice treat, sprite
These were very good, hot and fresh-we saved the crispy treats for later. The only thing we dislike about Pizza Planet is that you get served quckly but then wait ages for your food.
After lunch Matt & Luke went to do Star Tours again.
We headed towards the Lights,Motors,Action show but due to the times we couldnt do it today-we had a Fantasmic package booked for when the last show was.
When deciding what to do next, I saw something and thought there was only one thing to do...............
I had to go and see Bethan. Bethan is a fab member of the Dis and was on the ICP this summer. I knew I had to try and see her, even if it was just to say hi. Luckily I spotted her straight away and we briefly chatted-I didnt want her to get into trouble. Matt and Luke had fun getting wet on the Honey I shrunk The Kids playground.
We then decided to do The backlot tour, it takes about 45mins plus queueing.
After we'd looked around it was nearly time for our ADR@ Mama Melrose.
luckily we'd got the last time available for a Fantasmic package, so got a great time.
With the Fantasmic package you get Starter, Entree, Dessert and preferred seating for the Fantasmic show.
The restaurant was running about 30 mins behind, it had just started raining so we didnt mind waiting-although it was tiny in the waiting area, thankfully we soon found some seats.
We were eventually seated and were given some bread rolls with olive oil to dip them into.
It was dark inside, so pictures not great but will post what I have.
I know sometimes with the starters they let 1 person order a portion for 2, however our server said we could only do that if 2 were sharing. Its a shame as I really wanted the Calamari and Luke wanted the cheese. Matt was going to get the clams, so I decided to let Luke win as he wasnt eating much.
N&L=Mama's Antipasto for Two - selection of meats, cheeses, and marinated vegetables. Neither of us really liked it, I wished Id stuck to my preference and got the calamari
M=Clams Oreganatta - oak-fried clams cooked in oregano butter with Italian sausage over toasted focaccia. matt really enjoyed his.
L-what else! cheese pizza
M-Oak-grilled Pork Chop - with Five-cheese baked macaroni and tomato jam
matt enjoyed it but wished the meat had more sauce.
N-Shrimp Campanelle - wood-grilled chicken over Campanelle pasta tossed with Romanesco, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach and sweet Onions in a Four-Cheese Cream Sauce.
I had planned on just getting a flatbread but they didnt have the one I saw on the Allears menu. So I chose this, It was very nice. probably my favourtie dish of the holiday.
We were fairly full but all ordered dessert. Matt ordered one just so he could try and pronounce it in a really funny way. The funny thing was-the way he actually said it was correct.
N-chocolate cake
M-Spumoni gelato
L-chocolate gelato
The meal and service were great, I would def like to go again.
We all then rode Star Tours, this time is was a lot bumpier.
Then made our way to the Fantasmic, Matt had been trying to get a fastpass to the Rock 'n' Rollercoaster but we kept getting times that werent suitable. He had one last look to see how long the queue was but there wasnt enough time to do it before Fantasmic.
We used the Fantasmic package entrance-it was easy to spot. The walk was long and hilly-easily at least 10 minutes to get to the seating. I thought the seating was great, we were right at the back near the middle.
The show was great and it was nice to eventually see it. Especially after all our trouble, of trying to see it last time.
We then made our way to the entrance to catch the bus back to the hotel. It was here we first ran into a slight problem-however it turned out not to be a problem. There was a short queue in front-about 10 people but there were 2 scooters already waiting, the buses usually only take 2. So we thought we had to wait for the next one, no problem although we were all very tired. However the bus driver was fantastic, he loaded Luke on first and still go the other 2 scooters on. By the time he'd loaded them a bit of a queue had formed-he packed that bus like a can of sardines. Im sure he would have tied people to the roof if he'd been allowed. The thing was he was fab and noone seemed to mind, he joked about a lot and even did some quizes on the journey back. I thought it was great he even told everyone before we set off, the scooters and wheelchair would be getting off at the Contemporary-so people would need to get off to allow access and it reminded them they would have to wait. Although he was very fast, so it didnt really take him long.
Its great when the bus drivers are like that!
We knew we wouldnt make it back to our room to see wishes, however we saw a lot of it from the bus.
