Bedspreads in Hotel

I removed the bedspread the first day we were at the Beach Club & put them in the closet. I left a note for mousekeeping asking them not to replace the spread for our stay with the tip. They made the bed without the spread.

Best Idea. Ther is no way to gaurantee a washed bedspread. My mom is a hotel GM and she is VERY strict about us NEVER lying on them, putting our clothes on them, etc. We remove them as well. Jsut ask for extra blankets, like the ones between the sheets and the bed spread.

Also, don't go barefooted on the carpets!!! Alwys have flips, slippers or socks. They ar a breeding ground for athletes foot and DON't let your kids play on them!

They are only vaccuumed! Not shampooed b/twn guests!

Too bad gardengrocer.com can't deliver freshly washed , steam pressed -sealed comforters , along with their grocery delivery service. It just may be worth a small rental fee. Just think of how much business they would get ! :)

This thread has me in stitches :rotfl2: Especially after I just saw MONK on USA and the "Garbage Strike"....too funny. :lmao: I don't like the Comforter, so I take it off, only have the room cleaned once if I stay for 3 days, longer if my plane comes in early on the first day. ;)

1) I agree.
2) This is just way too funny.
3) Howard Hughes would be proud!
4) The next thing these folks need
. . . do not touch any handrail, due to germs from hands
. . . do not open a bathroom door, in case someone didn't wash their hands
. . . do not EVER use a public bathroom
. . . do not sit on a sidewalk for a parade, due to stuff on people's shoe
. . . do not touch a rental car steering wheel for the germs
. . . do not drink from a glass at a restaurant, in case it wasn't cleaned well

There was a news research story on hotel bedspreads and man you would not believe the amount of germs they found when the tested the spreads.YUCK

I just take it off the first day, fold it up and put a note on it asking that they do not put it back on the bed until my stay is over.

Yeah it was "HIS NAME IS JAKE BUT MOMMY CALLS HIM OUR LITTLE SOUVENIR" We have one of those little souvenirs. I wonder if our comforter was changed. :rotfl:

Gotta be the most expensive souvenir you have ever taken home with you!! :lmao:

My whole family are like germ freaks. That's why we always want to stay in the newest rooms because we figure that it hasn't had a chance to accumulate as much dirt from guests. Sounds strange, huh? We are going to try the ASMu Suites next year. Figure they are the newest and hopefully have "new" bedding?

Sincerely,
Fellow germ freak mom

Geez, no wonder my husband doesn't care to travel. He's always thought sleeping in a bed thousands of others have slept in before him is just gross. Says he's saving all his traveling for retirement when he can buy a RV, but no filthy 5 star resorts for him! :rotfl: I just thought he was a silly old fart! ;)

:tink:

You know, there aren't epidemics of hotel-bed originated diseases running rampant. Really - it's okay! I've stayed in hotels hundreds of nights and I'm still here to tell about it!
I agree with this to much is made on this topic and if a person is going to worry that much about it what about everything else we come in contact with during the day.

you realize that the more you hose things down with antimicrobial, antibacterial stuff the more mutations the bugs (ie. bacteria) get and the more of a chance that you'll get even sicker? i unfortunately was lucky enough to get one of those mutated bugs and they had to give me 4 differet meds before i actually had one that worked to get rid of the bacteria in my body.

i work with e.coli every day (haven't gotten sick from it yet!) and i can say that i am not afraid when i go to hotels and sleep in the beds with covers that haven't been washed or rooms that haven't been cleaned enough. just think about all those rides you go on in disney, i think you're more likely to get sick from that then from your bedspread.

iggbees..you are sooooo right! However..it aint e-coli I'm worried about lying in on the beadspread!

EEEEEWWWWWW!!!!

what about the alotted amount of rat feces and human body parts that are allowed into our food? i'd be more worried about that than a bedspread. though i'm not personally worried about either.

But remember, those blankets are not washed between guests either. I'll bet they're washed more often than the comforters, but they're certainly reused between guests.

What we do is request an additional sheet or take one from the Pack N Play (DVC villa) and put that on top of the blanket. This way we only touch sheets.

I've noticed that several hotel chains are now making their beds this way. Hampton Inns come to mind. It makes sense. This way the guest only lays on things that are washed with each guest visit.

As far as kids playing on the floor. I think thats an impossible situation to control 100% of the time. I can't tell you how many times our kids have stretched out on the floor in front of the TV in a DVC villa, or just sat and played a game, etc. I just tell them to not touch their face with their hands.

You forgot one of the biggest ones yet:
...do not send your children to any kind of school

If your kids can survive school, they certainly can survive a hotel stay.

its more about having it close to my face that concerns me. before reading this i always folded the sheet over the upper edge of the cover, but i may be folding the cover down a bit further during my upcoming trip. YUK!!!! :

When we traveled when the kids were younger, I actually did bring my own blankets, etc. and would cover the sofa. Still bring our own bedding, Lysol, Clorox wipes, etc. As a previous poster suggested (sarcastically) to stay in DVC resorts and wash the bedding upon arrival in the room, that is what we do now, actually! Might sound extreme to some, but works for us, and no more toting 2 extra suitcases full of bedding! :thumbsup2

The drive down 95, though, that is the worst, when you stop late at night, the pickings are slim for hotels, and I have stayed at places where it looked like they had just removed a chalk body outline from the dank carpet. I would honestly at that point rather sleep in the car, thank you. :guilty:

When people stop wiping boogers on furniture, walls, remotes and carpets and sitting on furniture nekkid, I will stop being a germaphobe. :teeth:

This thread is to funny! I've got a friend at work who would fit right in with this thread, a major germaphobe, and we work in a hospital!! Sick people everywhere!
