If you have nice bedroom furniture that you like (matching, good quality, etc...)

How much did you spend?

Just curious.

We bought last year, king bed, no mattress, dresser mirror and one nightstand for $2400

Eight years ago we bought an all wood matching set: queen sleigh bed (not the mattress), dresser with mirror, bureau, and 1 nightstand for about $1200, which included delivery and set up. I hated the drawer pulls so I bought new ones and replaced those. We're now looking to upgrade to a king mattress. The king sleigh bed is available for $400 but I'm not sure if I want that again. We might get a standard headboard that will "sorta" match, because I'm not looking to replace the entire room.

About 10 years ago got a king size bed, dresser with mirror, bedside tables and then a piece that houses our TV and has drawers on the bottom. Don't remember exact price but I will say about $7000. Live in California, everything is more expensive here and it's also Thomasville.

We moved here from California.

Shoot, I lost a whole post. :headache:

I had a beautiful Shaker style Yield House set with Queen pencil post bed (that we paid a steep price for) for 25 years but I wanted a bedroom update recently. So I painted the room a bold Mango color (from beige) and switched out some of the pieces including the bureau and mirror and the bed.

I got a beautiful, old but classic bureau at a consignment shop and added a gold, orange, black and brown hammered metal mirror to the top. I also got two black IKEA Expedit units for storge and books. I put a flat screen tv on top of one of them.

I got a black king sized Malm bed from IKEA with two huge storage drawers underneath and two nightstands that I'd contemplated for years. It was relatively inexpensive, although I did get a better mattress at Sleepy's (on clearance). Anyway, it's the best thing I've done in a long time. I'd worried about the quality (even though it felt wonderful in the store) but my fears were unfounded - the sucker is solid and I have no doubt it will hold up well for many years. (We often have ourselves, two teenagers and our German Shepherd up on the bed at once and there hasn't been as much as a creak.)

Some random thoughts:

Not having pencil posts seems to really "open up" our room and makes it feel a lot bigger even though the bed now takes up more room. (Contemporary styling is kind of sleek and more can in fact, be less.) Something to consider for smaller rooms.

Pieces don't have to "match" exactly - they just have to complement one another. In some ways it's more visually interesting to have a variety of fun pieces that you enjoy than a cookie cutter set. In our case, the mirror "pulls together" the different colors and styles of our "new" room. It's the first thing your eyes are drawn to when you walk in the room. I do not miss our "matching set" at all.

I wish IKEA was around when we first bought our house. We paid a ton of money for nice furniture over the years, but even when it held up well, styles change, and I wanted to update now and then. I can do it now fairly easily with IKEA items. I have quite a few now (and a kitchen!) and I think they're great.

The Expedit storage units are sturdy and functional. We have four of them in our home now - two in our room, one in DD's and one in our family room. They hold a ton of stuff but organize it neatly so it's not all over the place. They even make smaller drawers for the cubbies which are great.

I used some light, ivory, sheer floor to ceiling sheer curtains with a swirly design for our windows to add an element of brightness to the room. They were exactly what I was looking for but I was fortunate to find them on clearance.

Re-doing a room is hard work but so rewarding when you're done. :goodvibes Biggest accomplishment in any renovation is getting rid of clutter! For those just starting out, find a way to minimize it!

My DH's parents gave us their bed (just a couple of years old) when they bought their suite. It's metal but made to look rustic like it's black with flaking/cracking/peeling ivory paint that is rusting. It's a large headboard with two short pieces at both of the bottom corners. We really like it but I am having a hard time deciding how to match it.

Several years ago my parents paid $6,000 for their bedroom suite- King 4 poster bed (huge posts), taller than usual dresser and chest of drawers, and night stand. That didn't include their sleep number bed or the craftmatic part under it that raises and lowers their bed.

I always thought that was high but I was in a furniture store today and saw a suite that wasn't any where near as nice (and much smaller) for $7400!

We went to Ashley when we moved to a bigger house (with a bigger bedroom). We only wanted an armoire for DH's clothes but ended up with a complete set-armoire, dresser with mirror, king bed (no mattress) and 2 nightstands because I figured this was my one chance to get everything to match. Oh, I also got a bench for the foot of the bed.

Best thing I ever did! I still love it.

We spent about 4k and did the 4 year financing. It was a 'package' and then we added on the armoire, 1 night stand and the bench.

Last year we purchased a solid wood queen HB/FB with rails and two over-sized nightstands for around $600. We bought it from an independent furniture store, not a chain. It's mission style, which isn't exactly my thing, but I like that the bed has about 9 inches of clearance underneath and the nightstands each have three drawers. Our bedroom is small, so I was looking for storage more than style.

We never had a new bedroom set and made due with various hand downed pieces over the years (we had been married 18 years at that time). Well. 4 years ago we built a new home with a large mater bedroom and decided we would splurge on new bed for us.

While shopping, I fell in love with a set at a furniture store, and we ended up buying the bed, dresser, mirror, and a bench. The set mixes modern (headboard and bench are upholstered in leather) with antique. We mixed the pieces with some actual antique pieces we already own for a room I adore.

Total cost for the furniture was about $2500, it was hard to spend that much on a room for us but we have no regrets other than the fact we do not get to spend more time in that room awake.

Thanks all.

We do want solid wood, no veneer or particle board.

I am hoping to find a good used set. We have a bed and chairs, so we only need the dressers, nightstands, and hopefully a headboard, although two dressers and two nightstands would be sufficient.

We purchased a queen bed (shaker style) and 2 nightstands for about $650. They were hand made by an Amish man in Pa and are very sturdy, solid wood. I had just purchased Ikea dressers before deciding on having the bed made, but when they need to be replaced I plan on going back to have them made to match the bed/nightstands.

About $8000 for a king bedroom set (no mattress) from restoration hardware. Mattress was a gift for our wedding from someone who distributes expensive mattresses to high end hotels. We were given a Hastens mattress which we never heard of at the time until we decided to google it........OUCH!!!!

We go to an Amish auction nearby that has beautiful bedroom sets at a steal of a price, usually in either "country" or mission styles, always solid wood. I also go to a lot of estate sales and auctions, and often see many classic, "brand name" sets from the past fifty years going for pennies on the dollar (sometimes the auctioneer has to beg people to bid on them!).

We bought our suite 8 years ago. Queen bed (no mattress), 2 nightstands, chest of drawers, dresser w/mirror and large armoire that will hold a TV: about $3500. I don't remember the brand, it might be Ashley. It was at an independent furniture store. Oh, and I got 2 lamps for free for buying so much.

Last year we purchased new bedroom furniture and we paid between $2400-2600 for a King Bed, 2 nightstands, media chest, dresser and mirror. We only paid $200 for the king mattress at a warehouse sale Levin furniture was having. We figured $200 was worth the risk of potentially not liking it and we were very luck that it was perfect for us.

$600 for a windsor style Queen size bed in Mahogany stained cherry wood. $0 for two bureaus, lane cedar chest, 2 night stands all mahogany that I inherited from my grandparents. I believe my grandparents paid $500 for the pieces back in 1938.

Mmmm.. would love to check out one of the Amish Auctions mentioned above.
After 30 years of marriage, we still have never purchased bedroom furniture!
We did spend $2,000 on a king-sized mattress a few years ago and have some mismatched dressers and nightstands that we've collected over the years.

15 years ago. Custom made. Solid wood. Without mattress. $6500. Mattress was a $1000 more.

This set will out live us and about three more generation.
