Bedding on a Budget

Last year hubby and I had to replace our old bed - rail kept falling off! - and so we upgraded to a king size :cool1: . But that meant we needed all new bedding to go with.

Well, we have sheets & such, but we'll need a new comforter to fit the bed. Last one I had (queen size) was a gift. I've been pricing king comforters and man - they are spendy!

I'm hoping someone can suggest a site, sale or coupon to get a good quality (hate that slick material - want cotton) comforter without shelling out lots of $$$.

I have purchased bedding sets through HSN.com before. It's especially nice when it's a day they're offering free shipping or if you sign up on their website they send out 15% off coupons occasionally. I really like the option of 3 or 4 flex payments with no interest too.

My last bedding set I bought from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It was originally $400 on sale for $250 and I had one of those 20% coupons. It came with a bunch of decorative pillows, shams, bedskirt, two different sheet sets, and a big, oversized comforter. It's held up very nicely.

I've gotten some really good deals at Kohl's when they have their 60-80% off clearance prices. Marshalls and TJ Maxx also have name brands at lower prices. Or if you have a Burlington or Oddlots nearby, check them as well. I just got DD a darling quilt with pompoms at Target for $14.98 (75% off) we just got her a Tommy Hillfiger set at Burlington for $30 (sheets, sham and comforter) but I couldn't pass up the quilt, it's really a nice quality.

Clearance sales are definitely the way to go. Keep an eye out, watch for coupons too. JCPennys, Target, Walmart, as well as the better department stores have great sales every few months, so keep looking and you'll be surprised at the deals. Keep us posted.

We bought a lot of bedding at Ross. Really good quality stuff. Whole comforter sets for less than $100 and luxurious 450 thread-count sheet sets for $20-25. Check them out.

We bought our last comforter from BrylaneHome.com. We got a full sized comforter with matching shams and bed skirt for $25 shipped. They have decent clearance stuff every now and again. It's worth a look. :thumbsup2 Ours has held up well so far!

We were at Burlington Coat Factory a couple of months ago and purchased a complete set of Nautica (king size comforter and bed skirt, plus pillow cases, and curtains) for around $117.00. It was priced so low, it should have been illegal! :lmao:

Thanks! I'm hoping for some Labor Day sales to keep the cost down. A few of those stores we don't have here (TJ Maxx, Ross). I'm checking online, thanks for the suggestions.

Willing for more input - thanks again!

Domestications.com!!! They always have king sized sets in their clearance section and sometimes you can get a "room in a bag" with a king sized sheet set, king sized comforter, 3 throw pillows, shams, and curtains" for $50 sometimes less. The best part is if you pay with credit or debit you can set it up so they take it out in 3 installments. My sister in law did this and got a full sized comforter set for 11.40. Paide about 4 dollars a month. Cant beat that if you ask me

I just bought a beautiful bedding set at Costco this week. It's a Tommy Bahama set and I love it! My set is the queen size and it came with 6 pieces - comforter, 2 shams, bedskirt, and 2 decorative pillows. The price was about $148. The queen size set I think was about $20 more. I thought it was a fabulous price given the brand and the number of pieces.

I have purchased bedding off of overstock.com and from Marshalls. I have been happy with both purchases. Prices are good too :)

try King Linen. I ordered curtains from them when we built our new house, and was very satisfied. I have never ordered bedding, but what they have looks nice.

They have reasonable prices, and shipping was free and very prompt. :)

Oh, I love this one from domestications!!!

But they don't have it in king! :sad1: :sad1:

I'm going to try to hunt it down elsewhere!!!

I wish we had a costco here - but no.

I emailed them - they don't carry it in king anymore! WAAAA!

And I cannot find it anywhere else. That just sucks. Now I have to go back to the drawing board, so to speak.

I just got a new king comforter set (comforter, shames, bed skirt, and three decorative pilliows) on clearance last weekend at JCP. It was originally $240 and I got it for $45.

Question: I ran across a comforter tonight that was acceptable within budget and color range, but it was a 'down alternative' and it felt really thin. I've never had one before - anyone know if they are good? Hold up well? Warm?

Thanks again!
