Bed Bugs at Pop Century?!

Pro Tip: check your mattress, box springs, behind the head board if you can, under the chairs and in the drawers of the dresser

My partner is an Urban Entomologist. We always bring a small flashlight and check for bugs. Don't put anything in the dressers or night stands if you can help it and don't bring any luggage into the room until you check it out.

That being said we have stayed at Pop, Sports, and just left Music yesterday. We have never had a problem. Disney has excellent pest management. However, even 5 star hotels can get bed bugs.

Yeah I don't get the underwear thing either. I'll be keeping my reservation at POP. Hoping Disney would fix any major issues within a two week span

I feel that if Disney had a bedbug problem at a resort they would probably quarantine affected buildings/section off areas of the resort entirely. Bedbugs are a serious issue because of how hard they are to get rid of and the last thing any hotel wants is to be on the registry.

Years ago I stayed at an NYC hotel (before I moved here) that had bedbugs. I was bitten up but didn't take them home with me. The odds, even if you would unfortunately encounter them at a hotel, of bringing them back with you are pretty low.

Definitely.

I have heard when they have a room with bed bugs, they immediately close the room on either side and the rooms below and above and "treat" all these rooms.

And,of course, they also immediately order more underwear for the Merchandise Shop.;)

POP is a huge resort with over 1000 rooms. Inevitably they will have bedbugs in some room at all times. But so too with the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Poly, etc. Values are not any more likely to have them than Deluxes. Bedbugs have become a reality at all hotels in North America in the past 10 yrs esp because of changes to pesticides. Bedbugs were virtually unknown a few decades ago because of the strength of pesticides used in their eradication. However, they have made a big comeback because of our consumer protection regs and the weaker/less effective pesticides now available. The PPs have the right idea. Always check the mattress when you first arrive. Some guests even place their suitcases in the bathtub for the first few hrs after check-in. When I return from any travel, I always quarantine my suitcase for a few weeks in the garage and put my dirty clothes in a garbage bag and march them straight to the washing machine. I have enjoyed multiple stays at the POP and never once encountered bedbugs. Its simply the luck of the draw. The best we can do is take precautions.

Excellent info here. And the rest of this thread is pure awesome!

I would be very surprised if that is true.:)
Beg Bugs are very hardy & good at hiding. It wouldn't surprise me if they just moved from the area being treated to another part of the resort. Foggers and other treatment types generally don't work so well - the best thing to do is heat the rooms to kill as the insects & eggs, which works great for clothes and luggage but is tough for furniture and rooms and larger items.

They are incredibly difficult to kill. Usually multiple treatments are necessary. Very costly and time consuming with so-so results. My family was in the hotel business in a large North American chain for decades. Every property has had to deal with them and its no reflection of the cleanliness or quality of the property. They come in with a guest and once in a room, are tough to get rid of.

I still find it hard to believe that there are Bed Bugs in some rooms at POP EVERY day of the year.

(I "think" that Disney does heat the rooms as the treatment.)

Maybe not Pop but with the sheer number of rooms that Disney has I do think there is likely a room somewhere on property with bed bugs at all times.

They do heat the rooms. We've noticed rooms being treated at Pop on 3 out of our 5 stays.

Bed bugs can, and have, happened at any hotel. Deluxe, value and anything in between.

I don't get the underwear thing either. It's like management saying "oh no! The hotel has bed bugs, quick put the underwear out in the gift shop!" LOL.

I wouldn't worry too much OP, just check the mattress for signs then move on.

Well at least if you do get bed bugs you know they have you covered with undies and a Mickey poncho ! In all honesty thought I have stayed at Many hotels and they are all at equal risk for bed bugs. Many years ago a friend came to visit my house with bed bugs and My house became infested with them! It was a nightmare. So I always look for them now. I wouldn't worry about changing your reservation though.

Stayed at the Yacht Club a few years ago and went to the front desk at 4 am due to dozens of bites on my legs and uncontrollable itching. They sent out the authorities and found nothing. Apparently it was a reaction I was having to the no see ums which cause itching much like bed bugs :oO
