Can anyone help me. We just returned from a split stay. 5 lovely nights at vero and a nightmare at treehouse villas. Black mold by the door...it rained each day and water came in the front door. I woke up with bites all over me that looked like bed bug bites. Went to the front desk and told them. They asked if i wanted them to call 911. (Wth) Was told someone would be up to check and manager would follow up. Pest guy came in for 5 min said no bed bugs Manager did not follow up. Was told a dog would come check for bugs it didnt happen. I had to sleep in that room 2 more nights. Went to bed woke up with more bites in the pattern of bed bugs each remaining night. So gross!! I tried to move flight to leave early but could not. I have been on hold for a supervisor of member services for over an hour and was told it is not a member services issue to call the resort. So frustrated. My biggest concern was that i would take them home and that is why When they offered the dog I was happy because i would have left all my belongings there if the dog found any. So now what? I am not after compensation but this is not ok. Is this not a ms issue?

Sorry about the bites! Sounds awful. It does sound like a resort issue, though, so ask to speak with the manager. I’d pull back the sheets and look for evidence. Also consider that it could be spiders or another Florida bug of choice.
Try not to let it ruin your vacation!
I’ve stayed at the treehouses a few times without problems, but if there are new problems, certainly be the squeaky wheel that lets management know what to fix before my next stay!

That totally stinks. I would not have brought my stuff home (or at least not into my house) without knowing for sure. A doctor can usually tell if they're bed bug bites or not. If they wouldn't send the dog, I'd have asked for a doctor visit to the room.

Did you check for bedbugs yourself? How many nights had you been there before the bites showed up?

Did you check your room and beds at Vero for bedbugs before settling in? Bedbugs can take days (or weeks) to show up. Did you stay in any other hotels the last couple of weeks? Did anyone else get bites?

Since you left, you will likely not get a resolution.

Standing in the lobby talking calmly but loudly of your bedbugs may have gotten better results. It's unfortunate that that is the way it needs to be, but it seems the customer service is not what it used to be.

In this case, because pest control said all clear and you continued to stay and have now already left, you may be SOL unless you have some sort of photo evidence and documented proof that it was in fact bed bugs.

I had a bed bug experience in 2019 but the bites didn't materialize until I was already home. I did not bring any into the house, despite this. I emailed wdpr.gc.mail@disney.com to let them know and someone called me back to say they did find bed bugs in one of the rooms I had stayed in.

I have pictures of the bites. I asked for a doctor while i was still there but they offered to call 911. I thought they had a disney dr. I did check myself. We saw a couple of black spots on the sheets after pest control said nothing there but they could be anything. As someone that worked for public health for years they can be anywhere behind picture frames, baseboards etc. The only other plqce we stayed was vero and had no issues we were there 5 nights. Checked into treehouses after 2nd night had a couple of bites each night had more. I was waiting on the maneger to get back with us and he didnt (was also my childs 16th bday so celebrated with him amd trusted manager to follow up) that nigjt more bites. Was leaving the following am at 4am. I had not gone out to any movie theatres or stayed in any hotels. What a sad experience for first trip back after covid. :( not sure i want to return

Thank youI will email them. I don' want anyone else to go through this

No Disney doctor. Did you think there is a medical team ??
911 is the resource they use.
The dog was also another GREAT resource.
You had your reasons , but you should have moved.

It will be a day or so for resort to do dome research.

Not a disney dr but a dr that comes to the resort. It was offered in the past when I had an ill child and asked the front desk who to call. I used the service it was great. No I do not think they have a medical team. Your response is about as helpful as the front desk was in this situation. The 911 offer was sarcastic it was not genuine in tone. Clearly there would be a clinic or some other option for a non emergency.

Black mold and bed bugs should not be accepted in a room. I did not complain after the fact I brought it to Disney's attention and it was not handled properly.

We will see how member services and the resort handle it from here. Best case scenario would be they take it seriously and treat room 7023 prior to any other guest having to deal with it.

FYI, I had an au pair bring bed bugs to our home. for many reason she only lasted 3 weeks and my hotelier brother stayed in the room right after and caught one in the act. Dog came and only in the room she used and our brand new sofa where she parked herself. Another week or so and our house would have been totally compromised. Treatment for 2 rooms was $2500 several years ago. I cannot image what the entire home would have cost. If you really think they are bed bugs do not bring your suitcases in the house post travel.

Yikes!! I know they promised the dog would come and I just wanted know so i could take steps. Im going to see there is a service in my area that has a dog!! Thanks

Ya, I was hoping that the majority of the snarkiness and sarcasm had been quashed since it’s apparent peak over the 2021 year. Our latest trip had none. In fact our CMs leaned over backwards to help us get things figured out. Things that I had failed at (like one lost park reservation and restaurant reservations adjusted.)

Not suggesting at all that you weren't bitten by something, or minimizing the experience in any way, but given that all of Disney's bed and bath linens are white, it would be pretty hard not to see a bed bug infestation. They're a pretty good size and pretty easily seen with the naked eye. Even the smallest ones that bite (juveniles) are still about the size of a grain of rice and turn rust or brown colored after they bite due to the blood they have consumed (similar color to a cockroach). Adults are really obvious - about the size of an apple seed (about 5-7mm long). You'd expect at least some of them to be somewhere in that rice to apple seed size range, even if it was an early infestation. And (gross alert), they leave even bigger stains on the linens after feeding and "doing their business". After you were bitten and were actively looking for them, they should have been readily observable.

I know there are stories about people having bed bugs for years and not knowing it, and definitely NOT saying Disney can't get them (you can thank your fellow guests for that honor though), but I'd also look to the myriad other nasty things in Florida that fly, swim, and crawl around as the source of the attack. Again, doesn't reduce the discomfort but might reduce the heebie-jeebie level a little.

Sadly, I've had bedbugs in my home before (I think I have PTSD from it, it was really awful). The bites take a few days, up to two weeks, to show up. It was torture knowing I had to wait that long to know if our bug guy's treatments were working. If they showed up the next morning, it was likely not the source. I also agree, on white sheets they're noticeable. If you don't catch a bug visually, they leave little trails and blood spots on the sheets.

I really hope it's not bedbugs! It's truly an awful experience I would never wish on anyone. Never did find out where they came from either. They should refund you for the mold alone!!

The only treatment that works and is safe is heat. They bring a massive generator and park it in your driveway and tarp out the rooms then heat the rooms to 130 maybe (cant remember exactly) and leave it at that temp for 8 hours. Must remove all candles and you cannot re-enter til complete. Dog comes back to check and its done. the cute little beagle saving my house from being razed was the only nice part of the experience lol.

We're in Seattle and at the time (2016) there was only one dog in 3 states. I imagine there are many more now but finding the right service is key. No chemicals for me- 1) they are resistant 2) we have kids and dogs and that was a non starter to me.

I have a silly question but is there a possibility of oak mites?

I ask because you're in the treehouse villas so there's trees plentiful around you.

A random stab in the dark but something to consider if there's oak trees around there.
