Beaver Tails in Canada

During my recent trip to WDW (February 12th-19th) I was excited to see Beaver Tail Dessert listed on the park map under Canada's description. I have never tried these, but had heard wonderful reports about them on these boards. However, when I went to purchase one, I didnt see the item listed on any menus. I decided to ask one of the CMs in the Canada pavillion and here's what they told me:

The beaver tails are still currently unavailable (the reason for this, they said, is because due to problems with getting the items through customs, sometimes they were able to offer them and sometimes not...this led to inconsistencys, confusion, etc. Therefore they discontinued their contract with the makers of the beaver tails). However, they are renegotiating at this point, and expect to have beaver tails back as of June or July!

Looks like I may get to try this treat afterall!

Sounds like promising news!
We're heading back to WDW in December and we enjoyed the Beaver Tails on our last trip (May 2003)

What the heck can have to go through customs? Beavertails are nothing but fried dough with either chocolate, maple, or strawberry sauce. ???

(But they are delicious and we miss them!)

I think sometimes customs just likes to throw a monkeywrench in things! DF and I have been to Canada 6 times and 5 of those times were a piece of cake....the 6th time however was 3 hours of crossing-the-border aggravation!

The customs "excuse" is one of Disney's white lies they tell to guests every now and then.

The word is that they are discussing getting the freshly made BeaverTails back. The recent petition DID help.

This might be an unpopular view, but good riddence. Perhaps the one time I tried them I got a bad one, but I was less than impressed.

It was "dessert" after my first Le Cellier experience, and maybe I was expecting it to be as spectacular as my dinner.

Could it be true? Beaver tails making a triumphant return??? I've not had one since October 2002, and would love to see them back in time for our December trip!

Actually, the real reason they had to discontinue them was too many complaints from members of PETA about the disfiguring and maltreatment of beavers.

Actually, here in Canada (the actual country) Beaver Tails are served both savory and sweet, not just with the 3 toppings that were mentioned above. Some are sprinkled with cheeses, herbs, garlic etc, while others are coated in sugar, cinnamon, chocolate etc etc. There's a long list of available toppings. :)

Well, there goes the rumour that Beaver Tails was being replaced by Tim Hortons in the Canadian pavillion. Too bad because Tim's is a much better representation of Canada.

We're going next week and are soooooooooo bummed out that they're not available! It's one of our must do's...going to Canada and getting our fix!
Well, maybe next time. Since I've never had a dole whip, maybe I'll try one this trip. Maybe I'll find a new favorite snack there!

I am starting a foundation for poor tailess beavers and legless frogs all donations are greatly appreciated. These creatures have a right to live out the rest of their lives in as much of a normal way as possible. After all they have given up alot for our dining pleasure.Hopefully in the near future we will have a telethon live from Epcot.

Boy, oh boy, if beaver tails do come back I will be much happier!

First they closed down Forty-Thirst Street at DD and took away my beloved Frozen Sundrop (which is not carried by the Forty-Thirst Street Express carts at DD), then they closed Pure and Simple in the Wonders of life and took away my Precious (the bestest most awe-inspiring spirit-lifting vacation-making root-beer floats in the whole world), and then they took away the beaver tails. I mean, come on Disney, what's next, Dole Whips?! Mickey Bars? I want my tasty treats to come back!
