Beat up furniture at BCV

I often seen comments about the poor condition of the furniture at BCV.

Isn't it supposed to be the country "distressed" look? If you look at the common rooms, you see the same style.

Perhaps they need to put signs in the rooms saying "No, our furniture isn't beat up - it's a style statement and supposed to look that way!" :smooth:

Just a thought.

Some of it may be that, but also I think when it comes to the dining table and end tables, I believe its more the type of furniture they used.

It appears that the tables have a very thin photographic type veneer layer, which can easiily be scratched through, revealing the pressed board core. The core is a very light color, whereas the finished color is much darker.

The result is that even a minor scratch, say caused by someone being careless with their luggage, can result in a very noticeable mark.

If the tables were solid wood, I think this kind of damage would stand out less.

I could be wrong, but thats how it appeared when I looked at the table scratches last week.

Last January when I stayed there EVERY cushion on the chairs and sofa in the breezway (between pool and main entrance) was split. I figured it was some kid jumping on them with their knee(s). One I could see as an accident.. but all of them? It was deliberate vandalism, IMHO. Otherwise my room (306) was in great shape and had excellent furnishings, the common television room was also in good shape.

Last week we stayed in 322.. overall it was in good shape but someone deliberately carved a rectangle filled with hashmarks into the armchair with a pen. That took deliberate effort and some time, since it is solid wood. The design was maybe 5 to 6 inches tall, by and inch and a half wide..with about a dozen hashings in it.. not to artistic at all.

The coffee table had large chips out of the paint..something I would consider happening from reckless handling (either banging it into other furniture when moving it out of the way to open the sleeper bed), or slinging a heavy suitcase against it, intending to set it on top of the table. I would consider this type of damage to be within the scope of normal wear and tear, albeit unneccessary if reasonable care were used.

I think we can all live with minor scratches and such, it is the deliberate destruction of property that frys my behind. I also don't buy into the argument the furnishings are to represent a "vacation beach property".. I really didn't intend to spend this much money for a "beach house with second hand furniture".. I bought deluxe accomodations, and although I have never been in Y or B Club rooms, I can't imagine that furniture is in this shape..

Just my 2 cents..

We just got back yesterday from BCV. We had room 366, a 1 BR, and were also surprised at some of the damage to the furniture.

The kitchen table and the TV cabinet in the bedroom had chips out of the tops of them. The damaged was similiar to water damage from a glass that sweats.

The couch cushions also had several stains on either side of them.

Other than these things, the room was clean and looked good. I hope to post our trip report later this week.

Some of the furniture we have at home has the distressed look. Alot of our own furniture is similar to the BCV furniture. When we went last week to the BCV, it was more than distressed. It wasn't unusable and I can understand wear and tear. We did notice alot of stains on the couches, rugs and bedspreads. The tables had big, deep scratches and black scuff marks. Quite honestly, it didn't bother us too much. We were more concerned about the spackling that kept coming off the wall in the master bedroom!

When we were there last January, we didn't notice anything bad in our room - just the design type nicks. But I sure agree with all of you that stains and large gouges and dents are not design elements! It amazes me how much people beat up these rooms!

We are going home in two more weeks - we'll see how things look now!

Ohh, this is a good vein of conversation! Any more examples?

Keep them coming and I may yet be able to secure that 2BR for F&W at the 7 month window ;)

We've stayed at BCV 5 times since it opened, most recently this past October. First I need to admit that it's not our nature to check for wear and tear or purposeful damange caused in the places we stay on vacation but also admit that sometimes the wear and tear is so noticable that you simply can't miss it. With that said, after 5 visits I have never noticed the kinds of things that frequently get reported about the BCV rooms on these board. (No we aren't blind.) Perhaps we've been blessed with being assigned to rooms that aren't in the condition that some are describing. In other words, we have been extremely satisfied with our room each and every visit.

Just got back on 12/14 from BCV. Stayed in room 338, a dedicated 1Bdrm in the middle of the resort, with a pool view. I have to admit, after reading these boards I looked for damage fairly carefully and am happy to report that there was nothing more than a few minor scratches here and there. The front door did not close all the way unless you pulled or pushed it shut
the first day, but a CM walking around with a clipboard let me know that he already knew of the problem and it was fixed by the time we came back the first evening. I didn't even mention the problem to this CM - he came up to me in the hallway and let me know! BCV was first a fabulous first-time experience for us.

....

I had the same thought. When we were there last Thanksgiving, I looked at the dining table for the first time and thought, no wonder it is so beat up! What were they thinking putting that type of construction for a family eating space. I was a little concerned about my little ones eating on this table with cloth seat cushions! Spills do happen.
